Cynthia glanced over and realized a few of them were faces she'd seen on the news.

As someone passed by, they gave her a scrutinizing look. Cynthia quickly lowered her head, not daring to meet their eyes.

Only after everyone had gone did she risk looking up.

Dominic stood surrounded by the others, a faint, inscrutable smile on his lips as he spoke with effortless poise.

A slender cigarette dangled between his fingers, its tip flaring in the deliberately dim, mysterious hallway—first glowing, then fading into shadow.
