The next moment, Cynthia could be seen sneaking a glance around before picking up her phone, dialing quickly. Hunched over, she nearly buried her head beneath the coffee table, whispering into the receiver, "Assistant Hayward, make sure to remind my sister about her doctor's appointment!"

As soon as she finished, she hung up, straightened her posture, and resumed leafing through the documents in front of her as if nothing had happened.

Dominic arched a brow, then looked away from her.

It wasn't long before Quincy arrived with his assistant in tow. The young woman moved hesitantly to Cynthia's side, fussing with the stack of papers on the table.

Cynthia paused, confusion flickering in her eyes as she pressed her hand down over the documents. "Wh-what is it?" she asked, wary. She'd just finished pulling the key points from that stack—she couldn't risk the nervous assistant mixing everything up now.

Quincy leaned toward Dominic and murmured an explanation. "I'm sorry, Mr. Holloway. There was a mistake—my team accidentally brought Miss Tremaine a batch of discarded files, which added to her workload unnecessarily. I've already instructed someone downstairs to prepare the correct documents for Secretary Sabina. They'll be sent up right away."

Dominic looked coolly at the assistant hovering behind Quincy, his tone frosty. "Manager Quincy, with your wife about to give birth, I can understand your attention is divided. But I trust you know how to keep your priorities straight."

Quincy nodded quickly. "Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Holloway."

Only then did Cynthia realize that most of the documents delivered to her earlier were outdated—proposals and plans already rejected in previous meetings. No wonder the order of the files had seemed off when she first received them. She'd thought Quincy was giving her a hard time—after all, she was now overseeing the project that used to be under his management. It would be perfectly normal for him to resent her a little.

But seeing the genuine anxiety on Quincy's face as he explained things to Dominic, she began to suspect he really hadn't known about the mix-up.
