Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 172

Dominic didn't even look up, his tone calm as he replied, "A new employee started today."

Miranda let out a mild "Oh," and shifted her gaze away from the partition.

Cynthia felt that piercing stare finally withdraw and quietly exhaled in relief.

But before she could fully relax, Miranda rose from her seat and strode in Cynthia's direction.

She stopped right in front of her, looking down with a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

After all, Miranda knew Dominic wasn't exactly the nurturing, hands-on CEO type. It was unusual for him to personally mentor a new staff member.

Anyone allowed to work in his office must be someone special—or at least, that's how it seemed to Miranda.

Cynthia could feel Miranda's eyes on her and forced herself to breathe evenly. With Miranda standing so close, there was no way to pretend she hadn't noticed.

Taking a quiet breath, Cynthia lifted her head, put on a polite smile, stood up from the couch, and took the initiative.

"Good afternoon, Miss Kingsley."

Miranda smiled back, her gaze more friendly than scrutinizing, and offered her hand.

"Hello. May I ask your name?"

Cynthia quickly reached out to shake Miranda's hand, trying to look properly flattered.

"Nice to meet you, I'm—"

Before Cynthia could introduce herself, Dominic's voice broke in from across the room.

"Let's go. I've finished up here."

Miranda smoothly withdrew her hand and walked toward Dominic without missing a beat.

Clearly, she didn't actually care much about Cynthia's name; the question was just a polite formality.

Cynthia awkwardly drew her hand back.

Dominic glanced her way, his voice even.
