Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 188

She finished speaking and, not waiting for Dominic's response, hurried down the stairs toward him.

The guests standing near Juliet exchanged knowing, amused looks as they watched Cynthia's eager approach.

Dominic strode out of the parlor, and the group instinctively stepped aside, greeting him with polite smiles.

"Mr. Holloway, have a good evening."

He nodded slightly and passed through their midst.

Cynthia kept a pleasant, practiced smile on her face as she fell into step beside Dominic, trying not to let anyone notice her nerves. She even forced herself to strike up a conversation with him, just to keep up appearances.

"Mr. Holloway, when are we heading to Cloudcrest City?"

"Tomorrow," Dominic replied.

She blinked, caught off guard. "Oh. You…"

Before she could finish, Cynthia noticed several curious glances from behind. She lowered her voice and leaned in closer, speaking so only the two of them could hear.

"Why didn't you give me a heads-up?"

Leaving tomorrow—this was way too sudden.

Dominic looked at her calmly. "I'm telling you now."

She fell silent, at a loss for words.

He glanced down at her, his voice cool. "What's wrong? You've called Cloudcrest City home for years. Are you worried about a surprise visit?"

Cynthia shook her head. "Not exactly."

Truth was, she was more concerned about Juliet's health.

Dominic nodded. "Good."

She bit her lip, then asked softly, "If I do well in Cloudcrest City, would I be able to come back to The Capital from time to time?"

Dominic's gaze lingered on her, something unreadable flickering in his eyes.
