Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 194

Quincy frowned as he glanced at Cynthia, who stood a couple of people away from him. Her expression was calm and unwavering, untouched by anything he'd just said.

Anyone with a few years of experience in the corporate world would know better than to question him like that.

She wasn't naïve—she simply wasn't intimidated by his threats.

Quincy drew a deep breath, his chest rising and falling with restrained frustration.

After all these years as Project Director at Holloway Enterprises' headquarters, he was used to nothing but flattery and deference from those around him. Very few people ever dared to challenge him so directly.

"If Miss Tremaine were truly naïve, she wouldn't be so confrontational."

"Confrontational?" Cynthia repeated the word softly, almost amused.

"If anyone's being confrontational, it's you, Manager Quincy. I never made a big deal out of this in the first place. You're the one insisting I forgive your assistant. Tell me, why should I?"

As her words faded, the elevator doors slid shut.

Cynthia pressed the button for the next car and stepped inside, her stride composed.

Quincy didn't follow her in.

He stared at Cynthia, his expression darkening. His voice was cold as he called out to her.

"Aren't you afraid you'll regret crossing me? Once you're back at headquarters, things won't be so easy for you."

Cynthia met his gaze, then glanced up at the security camera in the elevator and smiled lightly.

"Well, since I've already made an enemy of you, what's the point in being afraid now?"

Quincy was caught between wanting to protect his assistant, hoping Cynthia would let the matter slide, and worrying the whole incident might reach Dominic's ears. No matter how she handled things, he wouldn't tolerate her presence for long.

Better, then, to know exactly who his adversary was.
