By the time Cynthia had calmed down, the elevator doors slid open onto the ground floor.

She pulled out her phone, ready to order a ride, but Dominic's car was already waiting at the curb. His driver stepped out and opened the back door for her.

"Miss Tremaine," he said politely, "Mr. Holloway asked me to take you home."

Surprised, Cynthia blinked. She hadn't expected that the man who'd just been pointedly ignoring her on the couch would be so considerate. For a fleeting moment, something warm stirred in her chest.

Besides, she was still a bit dizzy, and with the afternoon heat pressing in, trying to get a ride here was always a hassle. She didn't argue, just nodded and slid into the back seat with a polite smile. "Thank you. That's very kind."

The driver smiled back. "The one you should thank is Mr. Holloway, not me. He was thoughtful enough to realize you might not be feeling well after the wine, and asked me to drive you. I'm only following orders."

Cynthia's smile lingered, though she couldn't help but picture Dominic's usual cool, sharp expression. She lowered her voice, a hint of mischief in her question. "Is that really how Mr. Holloway phrased it?"

A flicker of embarrassment crossed the driver's face, but years of professionalism kept his composure intact. "Mr. Holloway may have a sharp tongue, but he's soft-hearted. He genuinely cares about you, Miss Tremaine."

She caught the truth in his eyes and pressed her lips together, gaze drifting out the window. Of course—Dominic would never pass up a chance to get in a jab at her.
