“Angry? Not even close,” she thought. There wasn’t a hint of anger in her expression.

“I’m completely serious,” Cynthia replied, her tone steady.

No sooner had she spoken than Assistant Frank’s call came through.

“Ms. Tremaine, the car’s fine. Giselle didn’t pull any tricks,” Frank reported.

Cynthia responded with a quiet “Alright,” and put her phone away. Only then did she turn, open the car door, and slide behind the wheel, finally at ease. She started the engine.

She pulled out of the parking spot and drove until she stopped right in front of Giselle.

Giselle, held in place by security, saw Cynthia’s car stop before her. For a moment, she was so shocked that she forgot to curse.

Cynthia rolled down her window and offered Giselle a sly, almost playful smile.

“You want to chase after him at VistaSphere Group? Fine. But you come after me, and that’s where it ends.”

With that, she pressed the gas and sped away, leaving behind Father Benedict’s stunned expression.

Fred had driven himself and was parked beside Cynthia’s car. The moment she left, he stopped blocking Benedict, climbed into his own car, and prepared to leave. He paused, rolling down his window as he came to a stop in front of Giselle.

“Did you hear what Ms. Tremaine just said?” he asked pointedly.

Giselle bit her lip so hard it nearly bled, her face pale and drawn. She looked so frail it seemed she might faint at any moment.

Fred didn’t push her any further. Ignoring the murderous glare from Benedict, he drove off.

“We’ll take her from here, Mr. Shepard,” the security staff said, noticing Benedict’s darkening expression. They began to lead Giselle away.

Giselle struggled violently. “Benedict! You can’t do this to me! You promised you’d protect me, you said—”

Benedict’s eyes were glacial, his brow furrowed in cold disgust. “Let her go,” he ordered.
