Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 224

After getting their reply, Cynthia finally put her phone away.

She dabbed at the corners of her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to compose herself—no way could she let Dominic see her crying like a child.

Once the floor was wiped clean, Cynthia washed her hands and turned to leave the kitchen.

But there was still a slick patch on the tiles. Her foot slid out from under her, and with a startled yelp, she slammed her hip against the edge of the sink.

The noise brought Dominic rushing in. He caught her just as she was about to fall over, but before Cynthia could regain her balance, his own feet slipped on the wet floor.

Dominic went down hard, landing flat on his back. He held Cynthia tightly to his chest, cushioning her fall.

She heard him grunt as he hit the ground, and realized she’d landed squarely on top of him.

Their hearts were pounding so wildly, Cynthia couldn’t tell where his heartbeat ended and hers began.

Blinking in shock, she scrambled to sit up.

“Mr. Holloway, are you all right?”

Dominic took a few deep breaths, steadying himself.

“I’ll live,” he muttered. “But if you keep squashing me like this, that might change.”

As he spoke, his gaze drifted downward.

Confused, Cynthia followed his eyes—her knee was pressed awkwardly against the inside of his thigh.

Flustered, she tried to push herself upright.

“S-sorry!”

But as she braced herself on the floor, her palm slipped again and she tumbled right back into his arms.

A low, rough sound escaped him.

Cynthia’s face burned. She scrambled to get away, limbs tangled and desperate.

But Dominic caught her around the waist, holding her still.

“Don’t squirm. Trying to take advantage of me?”

“N-no! Of course not!”
