Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 227

As Dominic circled around the hood and slid into the driver’s seat, he caught Cynthia watching him with a look that was equal parts sympathy and pity.

He immediately reached over and flicked her forehead. “You’d better toss out whatever nonsense you’re cooking up in that head of yours.”

He didn’t hold back; it stung a little. Cynthia clapped a hand over her forehead, looking sheepish and guilty.

She parted her lips, ready to say something, but thought better of it. No matter what she said now, it would only rub salt in Dominic’s wounds, so she kept quiet.

Dominic glanced sideways, noticing how unusually quiet and well-behaved she looked, folded into the seat as if trying to disappear. He broke the silence, his voice calm but cool.

“There’s nothing between your sister and me. Nothing at all.”

Cynthia nodded. “I know.”

Her sister had never wanted anything to do with him. That was obvious. It was just like when Cynthia had heard him say those words back then; she’d bowed out willingly, unwilling to imagine a day when she might have to compete with her own sister for a man.

Her sister had always doted on her, so she must have felt the same way.

Dominic had been dumped by her, then passed over by her sister. Even if he insisted now that he felt nothing for her sibling, Cynthia would believe him. After all, a man had his pride.

Besides, Tremaine Holdings still needed Dominic’s support—she would be foolish to offend him.

She was still mulling this over when Dominic, as if reading her mind, spoke up again from the driver’s seat.

“I’m not interested in your sister. At all,” he repeated, making it perfectly clear, hoping she’d finally stop with the wild speculation.

Cynthia was prepared for this, so she just nodded, utterly calm. “Okay.”
