Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 238

Janice fell silent.

Cynthia smirked, the corners of her lips curling up. “What’s wrong, Janice? Cat got your tongue? Or do you think I’m out of line?”

On the other end, Janice’s breathing was audibly uneven. “Of course not, Cyndi. You’re brilliant.”

But after a moment, she couldn’t help but press further. “But how can you be sure Benedict will follow your plan?”

Cynthia’s reply was soft, almost amused. “Because we have seven years of history—and there’s VistaSphere Group tying us together.”

Janice said nothing more. After a brief pause, she made a flimsy excuse and ended the call in a rush.

Cynthia stared at the chat window, her eyes darkening with a glint of ice.

She wondered what kind of surprise the little time bomb she’d planted in Janice’s mind would bring Benedict in the coming days.

Closing the chat, Cynthia pictured Janice slowly unraveling, eaten alive by suspicion, torturing herself and—most importantly—Benedict. The thought made Cynthia’s spirits soar.

It’s always the thief who’s most afraid the dog will run back to its original master. She just hoped Janice could keep her grip on Benedict—though she seriously doubted it.

Lunch break.

After finishing a light lunch, Cynthia leaned back in her office chair, absently scrolling through her phone. She hesitated, then shot a message to Dominic.

[Online?]

He hadn’t invited her to play any games the night before; she’d been too busy to notice until now.

Dominic: [In the middle of a meeting.]

Cynthia: [Alright, I’ll let you get back to it.]

She was about to close the chat when Dominic sent another message—a photo.

The picture showed Benedict sitting ramrod straight on a leather sofa, hands resting on his knees. His expression was a curious mix of forced politeness and bruised pride.
