Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 254

Cynthia slumped onto the sofa, her eyes filled with wounded resignation.

“Can’t you at least take me to the Raynes’ engagement party after I spent the whole night looking after you?” she pleaded.

Dominic didn’t answer.

She edged closer to him, lowering her voice. “Taking care of you isn’t even in my job description, you know. I went above and beyond—”

Clearly annoyed by her attempt to keep things distant, Dominic reached over, cupped the back of her head, and pulled her closer. He leaned in and kissed her—quick, fleeting, but impossible to ignore.

That was the unspoken price for last night, one he hadn’t put into words.

The kiss didn’t last long, just a brush of heat and softness, but it left her mind spinning.

Even as Dominic got up from the sofa, ruffled her hair, and said, “I’m heading to the office. My flight’s tonight—I’ll pick you up after work,” Cynthia was still dazed, replaying that kiss over and over in her mind.

He hadn’t been drunk. He’d kissed her fully sober.

Her thoughts were a tangled mess as she sat down at her office desk at VistaSphere Group. No matter how she tried, she couldn’t calm her pounding heart.

That’s when Benedict Shepard barged into her office, ignoring Fred’s attempts to stop him. He looked half-crazed.

“Cynthia, who was that guy last night? What did you two do?”

“We haven’t broken up—I haven’t agreed to it. So how could you just go off and find someone else?”
