Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 57

Terrance was trying his best to shift the blame onto Cynthia.

Cynthia ignored the pointed look Terrance shot her way. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that the coffee stain on Dominic's shirt had spread, dark drops clinging stubbornly to his sharp collarbone.

She hesitated for a moment, then pulled a few napkins from the dispenser and held them out. Before she could say anything, the man beside her spoke in a low, even voice.

"It really is infuriating."

Terrance, sensing a rare chance to bond with Dominic, jumped in eagerly.

"When this girl insisted on breaking off the engagement with you, I tried everything to stop her. But she's just as stubborn as her mother—so single-minded. If it weren't for her, we—"

Dominic listened quietly, offering no opinion. He simply reached out and took the napkins from Cynthia's hand, dabbing away the coffee stains on his shirt.

Terrance's expression shifted when he noticed. Just moments ago, he'd offered Dominic napkins himself—Dominic hadn't even glanced his way. But he'd taken them from Cynthia without hesitation.

Confused but unable to stop himself, Terrance kept talking.

"The Tremaines and the Holloways used to have such a close relationship. If it weren't for this girl—"

Dominic's brow furrowed and he cut Terrance off.

"Mr. Tremaine, there's no need to dwell on the past."

Terrance nodded quickly. "Yes, yes, of course, it's not as if—"

He didn't get to finish before Dominic interrupted again.

"Mr. Tremaine, I have other matters to attend to. I'll be leaving now."

His tone was polite but distant, leaving no room for argument.

Terrance froze for a beat, then replied instinctively, "Oh, alright."

He could sense Dominic's dislike for him, and he understood why. Ever since Cynthia had insisted on dissolving the engagement, the Holloways had severed all business ties with the Tremaines. It was only natural for Dominic to avoid him now.

Though resentment simmered in his chest, Terrance dared not let it show in front of Dominic. These days, even if he ran as fast as he could, he'd never catch up to the Holloways' momentum.

Dominic gave him a curt nod, not sparing Terrance another glance. He turned to the woman beside him, who seemed lost in thought.

"Let's go."
