Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 62

Cynthia lounged comfortably on the sofa, in a surprisingly good mood as she took in the apartment's décor.

Last time she'd been here, she'd been so nervous that she hadn't noticed a single thing about the place.

Now, for the first time, she realized one entire wall was dedicated to gaming memorabilia.

Drawn in, Cynthia found herself getting up and walking over. In the corner, she spotted something she never expected: a figurine based on a character skin she'd once submitted to a game contest.

Back then, her design hadn't been selected by the developers. She'd missed their follow-up due to some personal chaos, so in the end, another artist's work had been chosen. Still, the developers had sent her a consolation package—some branded gifts, nothing major.

That was… what, ten years ago now?

Her mother had just divorced Terrance and moved them both back to Cloudcrest City. Everything about the city had been strange to her; she'd become the textbook definition of a teenage gamer, half to kill boredom, half to escape sadness.

That game had been her constant companion during the loneliest, hardest days of her life.

If not for seeing this particular figurine, she might have forgotten she'd ever entered that contest at all.

She took the figurine out of the display case and held it in her hands.

It was a perfect match for her original design, right down to the little details she still remembered sketching all those years ago.

Looking at it, she could practically see her sixteen-year-old self reflected back: naive, exuberant, and a little over the top.

Dominic emerged from the dressing room, freshly changed. Cynthia, still caught up in excitement, held up the figurine.

"How did you get this?" she asked, bright-eyed.

He glanced at the figure in her hands, his tone cool and casual.

"I forget," he said.

Cynthia's excitement dimmed a little.

Dominic looked away, fidgeting with his shirt cuff. What was usually a quick, one-handed task seemed to give him trouble today; he kept fumbling with the button.

A moment later, slender fingers reached up and fastened it for him.

Dominic looked up, surprised.

Cynthia flashed him a winning, slightly mischievous smile and, without missing a beat, buttoned the cuff on his other sleeve as well.
