Chapter 15
Vincent froze as if struck by lightning, his fingers tightening on his phone. “What did you say?!”
Just then, the car entered a tunnel, the signal cut out, and the call dropped.
“Turn around! To the Romano estate! Now!” Vincent’s voice was terrifyingly cold, his eyes churning with a rage he had never shown before.
Marco was so startled he nearly lost control of the wheel, quickly executing a U–turn. He had never seen Vincent like this- the usually composed Boss now had bloodshot eyes and a jaw clenched so tight it looked ready to shatter.
The convoy sped to the Romano estate. Vincent kicked the front door open and stormed inside.
Don Romano was sitting on a leather sofa, sipping whiskey. He was so shocked he almost dropped his glass. “Vincent? What are you doing here?”
“You married Sophia off to someone in Boston?” Vincent bit out each word.
Don Romano paused, then gave an obsequious smile. “I did. Three days ago. You were always complaining about how much trouble she was, right? And the Sterling family’s sickly heir was offering five hundred million for an alliance, so I married her off. Now you and Isabella can finally be together without anyone bothering you…‘
“Who told you I love Isabella?!”
Vincent slammed his fist on the marble coffee and the entire slab cracked in two. He couldn’t believe that this man, his supposed godfather, had sold his own daughter for five hundred million dollars.
“Men,” his voice was frigid. “Tear this place apart.”
Two dozen men in black suits swarmed in, and in an instant, porcelain, furniture, and paintings were reduced to fragments.
Don Romano’s face went pale. “Vincent! What are you doing?!”
“As of today,” Vincent said, his voice level, “the Romano family is finished.”
“No! Vincent! You can’t do this!” Don Romano scrambled forward, pleading. “Think of the history between our families…”
“History?” Vincent sneered. “You’re not worthy of mentioning it.”
Just then, Isabella rushed in.
“Vincent! Why are you doing this to my father?!” Realization dawned on her, and she screamed hysterically, “You fell in love with Sophia, didn’t you?!”
Isabella looked as if she’d been struck by lightning, then burst into manic laughter. “But she’s never coming back!”
“You love her, but you never said it, so everyone thought you loved me!” she shrieked. “I paid your with my pictures. Do you think Sophia never saw them?”
“And the men who ‘took care‘ of her in jail? I arranged all of them, in your maids
“Marry both Isabella and her mother off to that seventy–year–old mafia boss in Chicago.” He bit out each word. “Otherwise, by this time tomorrow, the Romano family will cease to exist.”
Don Romano trembled, and finally, through gritted teeth, he said, “Men! Seize them!”
Wan’t! You said you truly loved my mother, that you’d treat me like your own
Isabella screamed and struggled. “Father! You daughter!”
“Shut up!” Don Romano slapped her across the face. “If you hadn’t taken matters into your own hands, things would never have gotten this far!”
As the wails of Isabella and Maria filled the air, Vincent turned and left without looking back.
“Get the jet ready,” he told Marco. “We’re going to Boston. Now
In the car, Vincent clutched the pearl necklace, his knuckles white. He couldn’t imagine Sophia married to another man. He couldn’t let his little princess belong to anyone else.
He had to get her back.
Even if he had to tear the world apart.
