Chasing His Scentless Mate (Caroline) novel Chapter 288

Chapter 288: Chapter 288 Steward’s Blackmail

Joseph’s POV

"You idiot, you hired Larson’s daughter?" my father spat through gritted teeth.

"I like her," Dean commented with satisfaction.

"Get up and get out of my company," I said with disgust coating every word. "And do me one favor, forget I exist. Your monthly allowance will continue, but don’t come looking for me again."

Hatred blazed in my father’s eyes. We’d never gotten along, but after he divorced my mother and took up with my ex-mate, things had deteriorated to an unbearable point. The fact that he was my father meant nothing to me anymore. I didn’t romanticize blood ties. I only continued supporting him because of Flora. My sister had been deeply affected by the divorce; she had adored her father, and even knowing what kind of man he was, she still felt affection for him.

Steward struggled to his feet and took two threatening steps toward me. I lost what little composure remained.

"GET OUT OF HERE, GODDAMN IT!" I roared. "Or security will drag you out!"

"This isn’t over, Joseph," he glared at me one final time before limping out.

I immediately picked up the phone and banned him from the building. Eleanor left as Julia sat down across from me.

"Alpha Joseph, it was about time you cut him out of your life. He’s far too toxic for you," Julia said, squeezing my hand supportively.

"Joseph, it’s tea. It’ll help calm you down," Eleanor returned with a steaming cup, making me laugh despite everything.

"You crazy woman! You just assaulted an Alpha." I thanked her and sipped the tea. "Are you going to tell your father what happened?"

"Yes, absolutely. I don’t want that man anywhere near my family," Eleanor answered firmly.

"Good. Your father knows what he’s like, but he’s getting worse. He doesn’t deserve a noble friend like Alpha Gerald." I supported her decision, but resolved to tell Gerald myself.

My father’s visit was like a hurricane, leaving chaos in its wake. After he left my office, I needed time to cool down, so I called my mother to warn her. As expected, she immediately declared her plans to travel. She’d rather be anywhere else than in the same city as him.

"I’m joining the girls for what sounds like a fabulous spa retreat," she told me over lunch. "We’ll be unreachable for at least a week."

I nodded, relieved. "Good. You’ve put up with enough of his drama."

Dean growled in agreement. "Your father never deserved either of you."

By evening, I was reviewing contracts when Antonio burst into my office with his usual teenage enthusiasm. Eleanor rose to greet him, but my nephew couldn’t resist flirting.

"Hey, gorgeous. If I drown in your beauty, would you give me mouth-to-mouth?" Antonio delivered the line with such confidence that both Eleanor and I burst out laughing.

"Kid, you’re nothing but trouble!" I said, wiping tears from my eyes

Eleanor played along. "Sweetheart, I promise to give you a chance when you go to college."

Antonio clutched his chest. "I’m holding you to that, beautiful. You know, time will fly by." He flopped down beside Eleanor, then his expression darkened. "So, I hear you met my delightful grandfather today?"

The sarcasm in his voice was unmistakable. Antonio despised my father after witnessing countless times when his grandmother cried because of the man’s callousness.

"Don’t remind me, sweetie. At least you and your uncle turned out nothing like him," Eleanor said with a smile.
