Chapter 299: Chapter 299 Setup

Steward’s POV

"Gerald Larson, my good buddy. I swear I had no clue she was your daughter."

I was standing in the corner of the social club’s reception area, making this call for what felt like the tenth time. I had been trying to apologize to Gerald, but the man simply wouldn’t listen. All this drama just because I’d flirted with his daughter, not knowing who she was. Yet he insisted on giving me a moral lecture about respecting women regardless of who they were. Finally, he told me never to call him again; our friendship of many years was over.

This only fueled my anger toward Joseph. My son was a complete idiot. I’d lost a potentially valuable ally because this fool had hired Gerald’s spoiled daughter without telling me. That boy needed to be taught a lesson.

I took a deep breath; I was here to meet other friends and needed to stay composed.

Just as I was turning to head toward the club’s dining room, I spotted a group of women entering. Each one prettier than the last. This club had certainly become livelier recently. Looking closer, I recognized two of them—one was Eleanor, and another was my beloved son’s girlfriend. Now this was interesting. Who were the others? I needed to find out.

I walked into the dining room and spotted my former Beta Elton sitting with his daughter; he was one of the friends I was meeting. His daughter was plain-looking, but I knew Joseph had dated her a few times and that she was infatuated with my foolish son. She certainly wouldn’t be pleased to see his new romance with another woman; perhaps she could be useful.

I approached their table and greeted them.

"Elton, and this lovely young lady. Sophia, would you care to join us?" I said, greeting them.

"No, Alpha Steward, I’m just waiting for my friends," Sophia smiled, speaking in that spoiled little princess tone of hers.

"What a shame!"

"How is Joseph doing, Alpha Steward?" Elton asked me.

"Getting worse by the day. Quite the ungrateful one, Elton," I commented.

"Oh, Alpha Steward, I don’t know what’s gotten into Joseph since he started hanging around with those women over there," Sophia said, pointing to the group of women I’d seen arriving.

"Is that so?" I asked with interest. "Do you know who they are? I only recognize Eleanor and Ava."

"They’re nothing but opportunists!" Sophia said jealously. "That Eleanor from the Blood Moon Pack is a crude woman. That Ava, I don’t know how she bewitched Joseph. The blonde one is Caroline, Eleanor’s friend and Alpha Draven’s assistant, and they had a thing. But my friend Ella won Alpha Draven back. The redhead is dating Beta Ryan, and I don’t know the shortest one; she’s new. The other one is married to Luke; she’s Beta Ryan’s assistant."

"So they’re troublemakers?" I probed.

"They’re worthless!" Sophia emphasized.

"Darling, I’m sorry, but as a father, I’m concerned. You know how much I wished for you to be my daughter-in-law." I saw her smile grow brighter. "If there’s anything I can do to help, just tell me."

"I just wish Joseph would leave that gold-digger and realize I’m the woman he truly wants," Sophia said, her eyes gleaming.

"I can help you with that," I answered.

"Don’t give my daughter false hope, Alpha Steward," Elton told me with a slightly cautious tone, but I didn’t care. Sophia was the perfect punishment for my ungrateful son.

"Don’t worry, Elton." I smiled at my Beta. One way or another, I’d use his daughter to get to my son.

"Oh, the girls are here! Goodbye, Dad, goodbye, Alpha Steward!" Sophia smiled as she left. I understood Joseph; Ava was a stunningly beautiful woman, while Sophia was just a plain-looking little girl and a spoiled brat at that.

I sat with my friends but couldn’t help watching that table of beauties. They were attracting quite a few envious glances. When I saw Ava get up to go to the restroom, I quietly made an excuse and followed her. This was a perfect opportunity. As I passed Sophia’s table, I caught her eye and signaled to her. She was smart enough to follow.

"Sophia, stay alert. That Ava has been eyeing me; I’m sure she’s interested. Make good use of what you’re about to see."

Sophia nodded and hid herself.

When Ava came out of the bathroom, I grabbed her arm and pressed her against the wall.
