"Agreement? What agreement?" Margaret's voice came out sharp.
Theodore replied, "Since you've taken the money, Isabella will no longer have anything to do with you. I'd like to put that in writing."
At those words, Margaret burst out laughing. "We haven't seen a dime, and you're already making demands? You're just a driver. I don't believe for a second you can come up with five million dollars.
"Let me make it clear. If you really hand over the money, Isabella can leave with you. You can also take every last thing of hers from this house."
But her taunts didn't seem to faze Theodore. He simply looked at Isabella and said, "Go pack your things."
Isabella nodded, then pulled him toward her room.
What had once been a storage room was now her bedroom. The space was just big enough for a narrow bed and a small desk.
However, what caught Theodore's eye was the wall covered with artwork, each one striking on its own.
Through those drawings, he could picture her in this cramped space, sketching alone. The vision was lovely but heartbreaking.
"Once we're back downstairs, watch my signal. If I tell you to run, you run," Isabella said.
Theodore looked at her, confusion etched across his face. "Why should we run?"
Isabella widened her eyes. "What else can we do? They'll never let us walk out of here!"
"I'll pay them," he replied lightly.
Isabella gaped at him, as if he had lost his mind. "It's five million dollars! Even if you sold me by the ounce, I wouldn't be worth that much!"
Theodore furrowed his brow as he fixed her with a stern look. "I would never sell you. And I told you. To me, you're priceless."
His eyes held gravity and gentleness as he spoke. For a moment, Isabella almost believed she was truly cherished. But it had to be a trick of the mind.
