Chapter 284

Caleb’s P.O.V

🙂))

I sat stiffly in the chair, my fingers drumming against my knee as I glanced at the other two teens in the room. Ashton, the oldest of the siblings, leaned back against the wall, arms crossed, his expression unreadable, while Maggie sat beside me, her expression neutral but I could tell that she was tense. We had decided to exclude Avery out of this meeting since she was still too young.

The air was tense, thick with an uncertainty none of us wanted to voice. Alpha Camden sat behind his massive oak desk, his fingers interlaced in front of him, the weight of his authority pressing down on all of us.

AshtonMaggie, I think you both know why you’ve been called here, but still, I would like to tell you in details what I have planned to do.My father, Alpha Camden looked at Ashton and then Maggie, before meeting my eyes briefly.

Yes, Alpha.Ashton nodded, his expression turning grim.

I know Lucas told you that you’re siblings,Alpha Camden said, his voice measured, unreadable. But I want to be absolutely certain that the three of you are related to Aurora. That’s why I’m ordering a DNA test for all of you. You, and your sisters.

Ashton was the first to respond. He exhaled sharply and straightened, his gaze locking onto Alpha Camden’s with something like relief. Honestly, I’ve had my doubts too,he admitted. If there’s even a small chance we aren’t actually Aurora’s halfsiblings, that Lucas lied to us like he did about so much elsethen we need to know. I don’t want to be a burden to heror to the packif this turns out to be a mistake.

I frowned, shifting in my seat. A mistake? The words tasted bitter on my tongue. You think this is just some misunderstanding? That Lucas could’ve manipulated you all?

He glanced at me, then at the girl beside himhis supposed sister. I think,he said carefully, that we owe it to

Aurora to be sure.

My father’s eyes flickered toward me. And Calebdo you have any objections?

I hesitated, glancing between them. Did I want to know the truth? What if the results told us that they weren’t Aurora’s siblings? What if the only connection they thought they had to Aurora was a lie? But what would happen

after all that?

However, for us to know if their connection to Aurora is real or not, this DNA test was vital.

If this is what it takes to settle things,I said finally, my voice steadier than I felt, then I think we should do the test. It’ll give us all peace of mind.

Alpha Camden nodded, satisfied. Good. We’ll get the results as soon as possible. Until then, I expect all of you to act as you always have. No assumptions. No divisions. But I also want to let you know, that even if the tests come

out negative, you will always have a home in this pack.

🙂))

Ashton nodded, but I could see the tension in his jaw. He wanted answers just as much as I did. Maybe even more.

I glanced at the girl beside me, the one who might be Aurora’s sister. She hadn’t said a word since the meeting started. She just sat there, staring down at her hands, her expression unreadable. I wondered what was going through her mind.

One way or another, we were about to find out the truth. And I wasn’t sure if I was ready for it. Harmona’s betrayal had left a scar on everyone, so trust wasn’t as easily given any longer.

I took a deep breath, watching the group in front of me with careful eyes. They were hesitant, uncertain, as if they were waiting for the other shoe to drop. I couldn’t blame them. They had spent too long under Lucas’s rule, subjected to his twisted version of reality, and now they were here, standing in front of me, wondering if they were truly free. I took a step forward, my voice firm but warm as I said.

I want you all to understand somethingyou are welcome here. You and the rest of the pack have a place with us. Whatever you went through under Lucas, it’s over now. You don’t have to keep looking over your shoulder, waiting for the past to catch up with you. We’re not just offering you shelter. We’re giving you a home, a future. That means reinstating you into the education system, making sure you have the chance to build something for yourselves. This isn’t charity. It’s what you deserve.

I let my words sink in, watching as their rigid postures softened slightly. But I wasn’t done. That being said, we need to be sure about one thing. My tone gentled, but I didn’t shy away from the truth. “This testit’s not about doubting you. It’s about making sure Lucas didn’t lie to you. If he did, then you deserve to know the truth. And no matter what the results say, it won’t change anything. You’re still part of this pack. You’re still safe.

Maggie, who had been silent until now, lifted her gaze to meet mine. There was something in her expressionrelief, gratitude, maybe even a little sadness.

Thank you, Caleb, she said, her voice steady. For everything. For not treating us like a burden. For giving us a real chance.” She hesitated for a moment before continuing, her lips curving into a small smile. And no matter what happens, no matter what the results say, I’m just glad I got to meet Aurora. She’sshe’s a sweet person, but there’s something fierce about her too. A quiet kind of strength.Maggie let out a soft breath, shaking her head as if in quiet disbelief. I don’t think I realized how much I needed to meet someone like her until now. If it weren’t for herwe’d all be dead, sacrificed to fulfill Lucas and Harmona’s twisted dark magic fantasies.

I nodded, understanding more than I could say, Aurora has that effect on people,I admitted.

She’s been through a lot, but she never lets it break her. If anything, she just gets stronger.I paused, looking around at the others before meeting Maggie’s gaze again. And so will you. The past is gone and done with, you need to move forward and grow stronger so it doesn’t break you. You are part of the DarkWater pack now. That means you are one of us. And that means you will be taken care of. You will have food, shelter, protection. You will have a home. But more than that, you will have a future.

She didn’t say anything for a moment, just looked at me with an expression that I could only describe as hope. And for the first time since they arrived, I could see itthe possibility of a real future, free from Lucas’s shadow.
