Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 455

Charlotte jabbed her elbow into his side, hissing, “Evander, are you just trying to take advantage of the situation?”

Evander wrapped an arm around her waist, effortlessly guiding her through the crowd. “It’s not taking advantage when it’s my own wife.”

To the onlookers, they were the picture of a loving young couple—the adoration in the man’s eyes and the shy affection in the woman’s painted a perfect scene.

And this very scene fell directly into the line of sight of Judd Carstairs.

When Charlotte’s gaze met his, she froze for a second before quickly looking away.

Evander, however, met his stare without flinching, and with his arm still around Charlotte, he walked straight toward him. “Mr. Carstairs, I didn’t realize you were interested in other people’s engagement parties.”

Judd’s reply was cool. “If Mr. Howard is interested, why can’t I be?”

“Whatever makes you happy, Mr. Carstairs,” Evander said. After a beat, he added, “Perhaps you’ll even find a beautiful companion of your own at the party tonight.”

Judd didn’t respond.

Just then, Neely Vinterberg’s voice echoed from the stage. But strangely, he wasn’t there in person. He was speaking via a large video screen, starting with a few congratulatory remarks. The guests, lost in the celebratory mood, listened happily.

A server approached Charlotte, and while handing her a glass of champagne, discreetly slipped a folded note into her hand.

Without a word, Charlotte clutched the note, placed her untouched drink on a nearby table, and slipped out of the crowd.

Both Evander and Judd noticed her abrupt departure.

Charlotte left the grand hall, dodging staff and security cameras until she found a deserted corner. She unfolded the paper.

The news hit Charlotte like a physical blow, her mind going completely blank. “Then… what does this have to do with the Carstairs family, or Deputy Commissioner Rivers?”

“But there are so many innocent people on board.”

“You can’t worry about them right now! You have to save yourself!”

Charlotte gripped her phone tightly and looked toward the gangway. To her horror, it was already being sealed off. “It’s too late.”

The yacht was slowly pulling away from the shore.

When Charlotte returned to the grand hall, the guests were still immersed in the festive atmosphere. The romantic, bustling energy made it impossible to sense the danger that was closing in.
