When Kaleb said to find the staff to confront face to face, Mr. Sullivan said in a calm manner, "I don't think a couple of minutes would be enough. As the whole company is talking about it. If Director Kaleb were to ask one by one, I'm afraid it will take the whole day."
D*mn!
Did Charles actually have some superpower to have read the minds of the entire company about Kaleb? He must be kidding!
After finally knowing that he was made fun of, Kaleb could not help but say angrily, "Mr. Sullivan, aren't you going too far with your joke?"
'Mr. Sullivan', which was Charles, stopped smiling and said seriously, "Kaleb, you should restrain yourself if you don't want to be talked upon. You took the position of my buddy's woman, how dare you come to me for investment?"
Charles stretched out his hand as he saw Kaleb's dazed expression, and patted him on the shoulder. He exerted more strength each time he patted him. "I advise you to look into the investor's social relations in advance when you were to ask for funds next time, to prevent such a situation from happening again."
Charles then left with a smile, leaving Kaleb in a daze.
After a while.
A ringtone drew Kaleb's attention and he picked it up with a pale face. After he heard the voice from the other side of the phone, he immediately put on a fawning expression and said, "Yes! Mr. Gradner, it's me! How can I help you?"
"Kaleb, how's the progress of the investment?"
After listening to Freddy's question, Kaleb stuttered and could not say anything.
As if noticing Kaleb's dilemma, Freddy's voice suddenly sank. "Kaleb, I've already given you a lot of time. Don't tell me that you didn't even catch a single big fish and have only caught shrimps?"
Kaleb, who was completely seen through, could only mumble, "I, I, I..."
"What the h*ll is going on with you? Give me a certain answer instead!" Freddy was greatly dissatisfied.
"Well! I really haven't managed to find an investor who can contribute a big amount of fund in one go. Please give me some more time, I will definitely find one for you!"
Freddy said unhappily, "What do you mean finding one for me? You should be finding the investor for yourself, and for the future of the Apex Construction Corporation! Kaleb, could you be thinking that you are working for me? With such consciousness, how can you be worthy to replace Amelia?"
It was Amelia again!
Kaleb gritted his teeth and started sadfishing. "Mr. Gradner, please don't say that. I'm under a lot of pressure as well."
"You're under great pressure?" Freddy sneered. "Am I less stressed than you? Shall you think I don't need to serve those above me? Do you know how much pressure I have bear for you?"
"Mr. Gradner..."
"Well!" Freddy interrupted without giving him a chance to speak. "I'll give you another two weeks. If you still can't find a suitable investor, you can either invite Amelia back to save the situation, or you can go to the Government Hall to explain yourself!"
After the malicious words, Freddy slammed the phone. He was obviously pissed off by Kaleb's attitude being insensible and incapable.
The bang seemed to make Kaleb's heart fall as well. He frowned badly, not knowing what to do.
Meanwhile, Charles, who just walked out of the Apex Construction Corporation, could no longer restrain his excitement. He called Patrick and said while laughing, "Patrick, let me tell you, that idiot Kaleb actually asked me to invest in the Easthern District project. Guess what? I am on your side without any doubt! I tantalised him at the beginning and then refused the fool with righteous words!"
Patrick's low laughter came from the other end of the phone. "Well done my buddy."
Charles chuckled and continued to mock Kaleb. "I really don't understand what the idiot is thinking. He actually didn't investigate our relationship in advance. Isn't that asking for trouble himself?"
Patrick said slowly, "Kaleb's mind is basically put into evil thoughts. He doesn't care about serious matters at all."
"Alas, your wife must be very depressed that her position was taken away by such a fool. By the way, you are also a good-for-nothing. How could you just stand by and watch your wife get bullied!" Charles started to criticise Patrick as he spoke.
"As it's Amy's choice, while I'm just helping her with all I have." Patrick spoke his mind to his friend. "Do you think I don't wish to teach Kaleb a lesson? It's because Amy didn't allow..."
"Oh my, calling Amy here and there. Is calling Mrs. Hopper not cheesy enough?" Charles said in an envious tone, "While you even won't do it just because she doesn't let you to. This is not your usual style to go on your own way! Have you become a timid husband instead?"
Patrick chuckled, "Could you be jealous? Do you want to look for a woman to settle down as well?"
Charles snorted, "Of course I'm not jealous! I'm proud to be single!"
At the moment, there was a rustling sound of turning papers from Patrick's side. It immediately made Charles so angry that he cried out, "Hey, hey, could you please listen to me carefully?"
"Do you have anything else? I'm about to get off work. But I must finish settling this document." Patrick explained.
So Charles could not be bothered to argue with him. "Oh, you're about to get off work? Why don't you come out and meet me? We haven't seen each other for a while."
Charles was amused by her 'threat'. "Sure, you may take photos as you wish. Should I strike a pose for you?"
"You're a crazy man!" Audrey gritted her teeth. She had wanted to scare him, but she did not expect him to be so shameless.
Charles looked her up and down. "You said that you're Patrick's fan. What's your name?"
She had an impulse to cover her chest while being stared by him. "Who are you? Why should I tell you?"
Charles tidied up his suit and said majestically, "Let me tell you the truth, I'm a close friend of Patrick. I was just scolding him for fun. Please don't mind."
"Who knows if you are telling the truth or not." Although Audrey said so, she put her phone away and was ready to stay away from the strange man.
However, as soon as she turned around, Charles's voice sounded again, "Looking by your uniform, you should be an employee of the Apex Construction Corporation, right? The company has no future. Are you interested to work for me?"
It was really rare to see such a lady with a sense of justice. The point was that she had stood up for Patrick, the cold hearted beast. How interesting!
Audrey turned around as she heard this and looked at him in bewilderment, "To work for you?"
Was the man really a close friend of Mr. Patrick? So he could not help inviting her to join their friendship when he heard that she was a fan of Mr. Patrick?
But, how would Mr. Patrick have a friend that was so pompous and unseemly?
Looking at Charles's colorful dress, Audrey felt that her vision was being harmed.
Charles, who knew nothing about it, was relieved to see that Audrey was stunned while staring at him. So he became more serious with his invitation instead of taking it as a joke. He fumbled for a business card and handed it to her, "Little admirer, this is my business card. You may take it first and think about it later."
Then he made a cool "bye" gesture and left without looking back.
At the risk of being fooled, Audrey looked down at the business card. When she saw the title "General Manager of Royal Joy Club" on it, she immediately tore the business card into half. She thought that she was really fooled!
Patrick, who had been cursed at for no reason, was putting down the urgent documents at the moment. He closed his eyes and raised his head to relax.
Right at the moment, the secretary came to deliver newspapers and magazines.
