As Amelia's words fell, there was no more replies from the speaker. If not for the occasional sound of breathing, she would have thought that the person behind had already left.
On the 12th day of Amelia's imprisonment.
Sawyer received an email which sender was Kaiden, his cousin.
Since he could not get through to his cell phone, Kaiden changed to use other methods, such as sending e-mail, WhatsApp, etc.
Every morning, Sawyer would open to take a look at the e-mail and then ruthlessly delete it.
He would not reply to Kaiden, because the brat was so protective of Amelia that he wished he could personally call the police to arrest him.
After waking up, Sawyer was resting his upper body on the head of the bed. He casually picked up the iPad and expressionlessly tapped on the latest email from Kaiden.
It was attached with a video followed by a very striking comment saying, "Sawyer, Abner was kidnapped!!! Come back and save him quickly!!!"
His face darkened as he saw this. But before he could look into it carefully, he felt something rubbing at his arm at the moment.
It turned out that Sissi was awake and was clinging to his arm like a cat. So he let go of the iPad and caressed her silky, long hair.
She was happy about it and said, "Good morning, dear."
"Good morning." After replying in a hurry, Sawyer once again focused his attention back on the iPad.
Just as he was about to take it further away, Sissi started shouting, "Sawyer! It says... Abner was kidnapped?!"
She saw it.
After all, Kaiden's comment of "Abner was kidnapped" was typed in red, enlarged and bold font. So anyone would notice it at first glance.
Sawyer frowned quietly. "Sissi, I was just about to see what's going on."
He did not want to spare some attention to comfort Sissi, who would only cry, in such a situation. That was why he had wanted to take the iPad further away.
But it was too late. Sissi had even anxiously grabbed the iPad from his hand and then hurriedly tapped to play the video.
Sawyer's face darkened as he saw this. What if the video contained a virus, which would very likely expose his whereabouts to Patrick's side?
He had not checked if the video was safe, yet Sissi had already opened it. He thought that she was simply foolish!
But it was irrevocable. And Sawyer could not shoot Sissi's head just because of the matter. So he could only try his best to calm his mind and focus his gaze on the video.
In the video, a man in black was rudely grabbing Abner from Ruth's arms. Ruth was crying helplessly, while Ryan looked as he would fall ill at any time. Even being pointed by a gun at his head, Abner still looked dull...
Sawyer was experienced in many major events. So after watching the video, he inadvertently raised his eyebrows, with an indescribable feeling.
"Sawyer! Did you see that? Abner is in great danger now!" Sissi pointed her finger on the screen continuously and eventually shed tears, making Sawyer feel like sighing.
"You're already a grown-up, why are you still so easily affected?" With some helplessness, Sawyer patted Sissi's back and said faintly, "It's obvious that the video is strange." "Hmm?" Sissi was puzzled.
Sawyer replayed the video and replied while pointing out the details, "Look, when the man grabbed Abner, he used his soft palms instead of sharp fingernails or stiff arms. He had even unconsciously covered Abner's stomach with his palm. Abner was indeed dull, but it didn't mean that he couldn't feel anything. If he was hurt, his expression would definitely change. But look, he didn't even frown. That is to say that he didn't feel hurt at all."
Sissi sobbed and asked, "But you said before that... Abner seldom cries even if he's injured."
"Yes, Abner rarely cries. But he still has basic reflexes, such as frowning or shrinking his muscles in pain the moment he falls. That's a human instinct."
After listening to his explanation, Sissi became calmer. "That is to say... the video may be taken to fool us?"
Sawyer shook his head. "It should be a warning instead. The Hopper Family is telling me that Abner and the others are in Northville, and are under their noses. So I should send Amelia back after consideration."
"So..." Sissi looked at him, waiting for his decision.
"But they're so dumb that I've discovered the loophole in this video. They can't do a real kidnap, yet they want to threaten me with the lives of my family? Ridiculous." Sawyer sneered.
Sissi could tell that Sawyer had showed no concern. He probably did not plan to save their son, which made her feel terrified.
"Sawyer, you're putting Abner in a dangerous position. Please think of a way to save him, could you? Even...even if to exchange him with Amelia..."
In fact, Sissi was a little unwilling deep in her heart. She did not want to easily let the b*tch off, but Abner's life was more important.
A cold glint flashed across Sawyer's eyes as he heard this, "It would be true disaster if I return Amelia to them now. Amelia and the child in her belly are like two weapons, allowing me to attack and defend. It can be said that the current situation is still under my control. Once I release Amelia, The Hopper Family can then deal with me without any restraint. I dislike doing things that I can't have control over."
"Sawyer..." Sissi looked at him with hesitation.
"Stop talking." Sawyer interrupted her. "You go prepare yourself now and well set off as soon as possible, okay?"
"Set off?" Sissi asked in confusion when she saw Sawyer get out of bed, "Where are we going?"
Owen answered sharply, "There's something I have to tell Patrick."
Then, he looked at Florence and asked, "Is Patrick almost done?" "Seems to be." Florence answered, rubbing the goosebumps on her arms. "I also feel the pain while looking at it."
Owen pretended to be relaxed and shrugged. "It's fine. After drinking the soup prepared by Granny, Patrick will no longer feel pain."
"Aite." Florence turned around and leaned on the window again, looking eager. Who could have thought that she had loved the most to go against Patrick?
When Patrick was pushed out by the nurse in a wheelchair, he felt warm in his heart as he saw his family was guarding outside. He said, "I'm fine."
His few words had served as a great comfort for them.
After returning to the ward, Patrick lay back to the bed with the help of the caretaker.
His wound was a little painful because of the tugging. But when he noticed the worry on the faces of his family members, he suppressed the pain and asked with a smile, "What soup did Granny bring me today?"
"Granny made you ginseng chicken soup today. Do you have an appetite now? Would you like to have a bowl of it first?" Granny Hopper asked kindly.
Patrick nodded and turned his eyes. "Sure, Florence may serve it for me."
After Florence was stunned for a moment, she hurriedly took the thermos from Granny Hopper. She served the soup in a bowl and handed to Patrick,"... Patrick, do you need me to feed you?"
Sensing Florence's evasive eyes, Patrick said softly, "I won't refuse if you're willing."
Florence sat beside the bed almost immediately and fed Patrick spoon by spoon.
When she saw Patrick's dark circles and pale thin lips while feeding him, Florence had an impulse to cry.
Finally, she puckered her lips and said in a weak voice, "Patrick, I'm sorry..."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as they heard her apology.
She had been cautious for fear of making mistakes while facing Patrick for days, which was not like her at all.
Patrick pursed his lips and said, "Listen, what happened at the wedding has nothing to do with you. You do not have to feel guilty, or to avoid me, worrying that I will blame or punish you. Just like this..."
As he spoke, he seized the chance to pinch her cheeks and pull them to both sides before Florence could speak.
