It wasn’t in Rachel’s style to strike someone who was being nice to her. She didn’t want to embarrass the aunt in front of so many people, which would only make her look impolite.

So she said with a smile, “Thank you, Aunt Polly.”

She took a small bite of the sweet potato, which melted in her mouth and tasted heavenly.

Tyler sat by her side, tucking a lock of hair that came free behind her ear. He picked up a glass of warm water on the table and handed it to her.

“Take it easy. Don’t choke.”

He turned to Polly, and said in a voice that sounded much better–natured than the usual, “Thank you for that. She’s been very picky with food lately and enjoys mild–tasting foods like this.”

“Don’t mention it!” Polly said with a wave of her hand.

Her gaze landed on Rachel’s stomach.

With a slight tinge of regret in her voice, she added, “I used to speak my mind without a second thought. Please don’t take it to heart. It was tough on you in the past. Have you two chosen your wedding outfits?”

“Yes, we have. Tyler will be wearing an embroidered dark navy blue suit.”

Rachel pulled out her phone and showed Polly the photos of them trying out their outfits. “Look, we took these photos while trying out the gown and suit. The seamstress even mentioned adding some sequins on the bodice to accentuate the curves.”

“Wow, the material looks excellent!”

Polly pointed at the screen as she leaned in close.

“It’s satin, isn’t it? The needlework is so delicate, it’s hard to find such an excellent seamstress nowadays. I wanted something like this when I was married, but it was a pity I couldn’t afford it back then. I had to wear something frumpy. I regret it till this day.”

“Aunt Polly, if you like it so much, you can help me out when I change into the dress,” Rachel offered. “You can help me check whether I wear the gown correctly or not. You have experience in this, so I’m sure you’ll be more familiar than I am.”

“That sounds like a great idea!” Polly exclaimed, her eyes twinkling. She turned around and called another aunt. “Zelda, come and take a look at how grand Rachel’s wedding gown is!”

Zelda was peeling an orange for Willow, Tyler’s cousin. She walked over with a smile and a half–peeled orange in hand, which she handed to Rachel.

“Here, have some oranges. I deliberately picked sour ones. I adored them when I was carrying Willow. I had to switch to eating apples when the doctor told me to cut down on eating oranges.”

Rachel took the orange from Zelda and ate a slice. The tanginess of the fruit spread

The tartness wasn’t usually something people enjoyed, but to Rachel, it was perfect.

“Thank you, Aunt Zelda. I’ve been having cravings for sour foods recently. Tyler had to run to three supermarkets yesterday to search for barely ripe oranges that I love.”

“Men should learn from him!” Zelda said approvingly as she patted Tyler on his arm. “You know how to dore on your wife. That’s already much better than my husband! Remember, don’t let Rachel get too exhausted while pregnant. Outsource the wedding planning if you have to. It’s more important for her to focus on the baby right now.”

Tyler nodded as he rubbed his finger on the back of Rachel’s hand. “I’ve got it all arranged. Yale will be overseeing everything. All Rachel needs to do is to pick the wedding favors and the wedding invitation card design.”

“How thoughtful of you!” Willow said as she leaned into their conversation.

Her phone was in her hand, with pictures of wedding venue decorations on the screen.

“Rachel, look at this design style, with beautiful lanterns hanging on the tree. It’ll surely look mesmerizing at night. I wanted this for my wedding, but my husband rejected the idea. I’m still nagging at him about it.”
