Chapter 218

Skye’s POV

I fidgeted with the edge of the blanket, feeling heat rise to my cheeks. Did I maybe mishear you?I asked Adrian

awkwardly.

How could I possibly have called Leon’s name in my dream? Especially after we’d dissolved our mate bond.

Adrian’s lips curved into a gentle smile. I’m not blaming you, Skye. After everything we’ve been through, if we can’t trust each other, how will we manage our pack together? How will we raise children?

As he spoke, he moved behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. His hands caressed my stomach softly, making my heart skip. Sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow across the room and highlighting the flecks of gold in his amber eyes.

I’m nowhere near ready to be a mom,I said, placing my hands over his. We have too many unresolved issues. If we can’t create a better world for a child, bringing them into this one would be cruel.

That’s exactly what I was thinking,Adrian said, his breath warm against my ear. Of course, I don’t want you calling any man’s name in your dreams. But you and Leon shared experiences I know nothing about. And now that we’re in the same alliance, I don’t want to treat him like an enemy.

Thank you,I turned in his arms and hugged him tightly, once again certain I’d made the right choice. Leon and I were never meant to be. Love wasn’t just about that initial sparkit was about understanding, acceptance, and connection over

time.

After we send Thomas to prison, we’ll return to Oasisborn Pack for the marking ceremony,Adrian said, stroking my hair.

I nodded against his chest. Yes.

After taking some fever medication, I fell back asleep. When I woke again, evening had fallen. The room was bathed in soft golden light filtering through the curtains.

Adrian sat nearby, looking through some papers. I gave Thomas’s evidence to Garrett,he said when he noticed I was

awake.

An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach. Something about handling the evidence made me nervous. This wasn’t just about politics anymore lives were at stake. I sent a mindlink to Beck and Garrett, asking them to come to Adrian’s room.

Ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door. Beck entered first, his tall frame filling the doorway before he stepped aside to let Garrett in. The room suddenly felt smaller with four of us inside. Garrett nodded respectfully toward Adrian before turning his attention to me, his expression curious.

When Beck glanced around curiously. Are we packing up to head back to Oasisborn? Honestly, I’m kinda missing Texas.

We’ll be staying in town a bit longer,I said, then fixed him with a serious look. Beck, I need to ask something important of you. You must promise you can do it.

Beck’s expression shifted to surprise. What is it? The election’s over, right? I can’t make promises blindly.

You need to do this,I said firmly. Otherwise you won’t pass your threemonth probation.

Fine, fine, I promise. Beck shrugged. If I’d known you guys were this strict, I might have joined another pack.

Before we return to Oasisborn, Garrett’s safety is in your hands,I told him.

Beck looked confused by my request. He glanced at Garrett, who seemed equally surprised.

Don’t ask questions,I said. Just promise me you’ll keep him safe.

Come on,Beck said with a dismissive wave. That’s nothing. Consider it done.”

Remember, I emphasized, this isn’t small.

Then I turned to Garrett, who’d been quietly observing our exchange. If anything goes wrong at the Alpha King’s inauguration ceremony next Monday, you know what to do, right?

Garrett’s fists clenched, his anger evident. He must have reviewed the videos. Skye, don’t worry. I promise those bastards won’t get away with anything.

I nodded, satisfied. The pieces were falling into place, though I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were walking into something bigger than we anticipated. The evidence against Thomas was damning, but powerful men rarely fell without a

fight.

After Beck and Garrett left, I noticed Adrian sitting in the chair, watching me with appreciation in his eyes. You’ve changed so much this past year,he said. You’re not acting like a Beta anymore. You’re becoming more like a Luna every

day.

Xavier appeared in the doorway just then, knocking lightly and clearing his throat. Am I interrupting something?

I teased him, Why do you always appear out of nowhere like some assassin?

Adrian asked, Did you need something from us?

Xavier handed us two envelopes. These are invitations to the Alpha King transition ceremony next Monday. Are you
