Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148

Freya debated for a bit before snapping off a small piece of a palmier and handing it to Perry.

“I’ll give you this much. You can just have a taste. Ms. Walker has made them specially for me.”

Perry was rendered speechless as he looked at the tiny piece of palmier on his palm.

Matt and the others came back fairly quickly.

Nancy walked over while checking the photos on Matt’s camera. A faint smile played on her lips.

Jayson noticed Renee was missing. He asked, “Where’s Renee?”

Freya answered immediately, “She went back to the lounge. She got upset for some reason just now. I’m not even sure what I’ve said that ticked her off, though.”

Jayson did not think much of it. “Hmm… Don’t mind her. She’s been spoiled rotten.”

After hearing Freya’s explanation, Matt suddenly recalled the post she had shared on her social media account the other day.

He sat down next to Freya and poured her a drink. Then, Matt probed, “Tell me, Freya. You posted about your brother and a lady the other day. Who’s that lady?”

Perry’s eyes hardened.

Nancy subconsciously looked toward Perry. She couldn’t help but wonder why Perry had not told them anything if he was really seeing someone. She had asked him about it, but Perry never gave her any clear answers.

Jayson slowly turned his gaze toward Perry. Curiosity gleamed in his eyes.

Freya instinctively stole a glance at Perry.

In truth, Perry had told her that he and Ariel were not in that kind of relationship. Moreover, Ariel would not want others to misunderstand their relationship. So, Perry had reminded her not to make any hasty comments about him and Ariel.

Freya blinked a few times and said, “She’s just a random lady we met the other day. She’s not really someone special.”

“How boring…” Matt responded in disappointment.

Nancy’s brows lifted. She knew Perry would not keep something like that to himself.

“I could still recall how your brother was smiling so brightly at that person in the photo.” Jayson unbuttoned the first few buttons on his jacket as he made that remark.

There was a moment of awkward silence.

It took Perry some time to come up with an ambiguous response. “Well, it’s probably because she’s really pretty.”

Everyone was looking at him this time. Their expressions were all different.

Nancy’s gaze fell on Perry. She had never heard Perry praising any other woman except for her. 1

After enjoying a week–long break, Ariel went back to work.

She reckoned they needed to run some of the tests again for several data compiled for certain projects managed by her ever since joining Faye Tech. Hence, any plans to attract investments for those projects would have to be postponed accordingly.

“That won’t do! Valentine’s Day is such a wonderful day. You shouldn’t just treat it like any other day. If you two haven’t made any plans, I’ll do it for you!”

Ariel dropped her gaze. A small frown creased her forehead. She had a weary look in her eyes.

Ariel felt extremely frustrated. She was troubled by the fact that Jayson was still keeping his family in the dark about their divorce.

Betty did not say much after that. She gave a final reminder. “You should continue with your work, then. Leave all the planning to me!”

She did not even allow Ariel a chance to say anything as she hung up right away.

Ariel frowned and stood in the same spot. While she was considering what to do, a car pulled up in the distance.

Ariel recognized the car plate number and the car’s model.

Jayson’s tall form came into sight the next instant. His gaze drifted toward Ariel for a few seconds. Then, he looked away indifferently. He moved to the other side of the car to open the door.

Nancy put her hand on Jayson’s arm and got out of the car elegantly.

Several top executives working for Vireon Technologies came out to greet the pair. The group of them were about to move past Ariel and enter the building.

Jayson showed no intention of greeting Ariel.

Just as he and Nancy were about to walk past her, Ariel pursed her lips and called out right away, “Jayson, I need to ask you something. Can you spare me a few minutes?”
