Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 167

Chapter 167

Ariel had reacted quite strongly. She still had a calm expression on her face. However, the way she had subconsciously resisted and raised her hand to push Jayson’s hand away was done by following her instincts.

Jayson stiffened.

Under the warm, orange lights, his cold, deep–set eyes were unreadable.

He managed to observe the series of changes in Ariel’s emotions. Jayson pulled back his hand and said flatly, Alright. You should tuck yourself in, then.”

Jayson turned around and sat on the leather couch placed at the side. He thought about lighting a cigarette. Just as he produced a lighter, Jayson furrowed his brows and put the cigarette back into the box.

Ariel did not try to refuse to take the medicine. She lifted the covers and stuffed the medicine tablets Jayson had brought over for her into her mouth. She swallowed them with a mouthful of water.

As for the box of dried cranberries left on the bedside table, Ariel did not touch it. Jayson noticed that.

They had been married for three years, after all. Ariel had a weak constitution, often having fevers or headaches from time to time.

Previously, it took Ariel a long time to prepare herself to take her medicine because she was afraid of the bitter taste and the possibility that it might be hard to swallow.

She would eat a lot of candies or dried fruits even after taking just one single tablet of medicine.

However, Ariel had not even looked at the dried cranberries just now. She did not even wince as she swallowed those medicine tablets at one go.

Jayson could not help but wonder when she overcame her fear of the medicine’s bitter taste.

Ariel was feeling light–headed. Still, she was thinking about the ring.

She looked at Jayson and asked straightforwardly, “I came back today because there was something I needed to talk to you about. Can you sell me the ring?”

Jayson cast her a sideways glance. “You want me to sell

u the ring?“:

Ariel could not tell much from Jayson’s reaction whether he was willing or not. She tightened her fists and said anxiously, “I’m willing to pay any price you wan

for the ring!”

“Do I look like I’ll be needing the money from you?” Jayson gave a little snort. There was an enigmatic look in his dark eyes.

Ariel’s heart sank. Before she could say anything…

“Is Ari doing a bit better now?

The maids here worked in either the morning or night shift. Therefore, there were people who remained on standby even at this hour.

A warm feeling filled Ariel’s chest. She said softly, “I’m sorry for making you worry, Grandma.”

Betty stroked her hair gently. “Just wait for a moment, alright?”

As soon as Betty left, the air inside the room felt stifling once again.

Jayson glanced at his watch. “It’s almost 5:00 am. I’m going to take a shower.”

He had not given Ariel any reply to her question earlier.

Ariel massaged the area between her brows. She was still feeling a bit dizzy. Nevertheless, she got up, took a fresh change of clothes, and went to the guest room to shower.

She and Jayson went downstairs and sat next to the dining table at about the same time.

Betty felt quite pleased looking at the couple. At the very least, Jayson had done pretty well last night by looking

after his sick wife.

Betty scooped some food into Ariel’s plate and said, “I’ve made some arrangements for you two on Valentine’s Day. I’ve reserved a candlelight dinner at a restaurant and… a suite designed specifically for couples. You guys should make use of the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing time
