Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 172

Ariel sat there silently for a moment.

It turned out Jayson had left in a hurry because he was worried about Nancy skipping meals and overworking

herself.

She replied with another message. “Alright.”

It appeared one could easily make their mothers and lovers yield to them by threatening to skip their meals.

After replying to Chad’s message, Ariel lay listlessly on the couch. She did not even have the strength to walk all the way to the bedroom.

She still had not gotten used to the pain, even though she would experience it from time to time. The pain felt so much worse this time. It was to the extent that Ariel had even tried to seek Jayson’s help.

Fortunately, since there was another situation on Nancy’s side, Jayson failed to notice how Ariel was in so much pain earlier that she looked like she was about to die.

Anyway, Ariel was not conceited enough to think that Jayson would choose to stay with her even if he did notice how she looked unwell.

She was simply glad she had managed to keep the fact that she had a terminal illness a secret. Once Leonard’s illness was cured, Ariel would not have to bother about hiding these things or her abilities anymore.

By the time Jayson got to Bluum Corp’s building, Nancy had worked nonstop for two days. She was visibly exhausted.

Jayson checked his watch. “You should head home and rest. We’re not in that much of a hurry.”

Nancy shook her head. “I should complete the tasks properly since you’ve put your faith in me. I can’t let you and the other staff members, who are also working overtime, down.”

Colton glanced at Jayson briefly and said, “Ms. Stanton, Mr. Larkin is worried about you as well. Why don’t you eat something first? I bought you some porridge.”

Nancy’s mood lifted when she heard those words. She beamed. “I’m sorry for making you worry, Jayson.”

Jayson gave a slight nod. He sat down at the desk and looked at the computer to check their latest progress.

Colton stepped forward and helped Nancy with opening the food container.

Since Nancy was experiencing symptoms of low blood glucose, she accidentally spilled some porridge onto her shirt when her hand shook uncontrollably.

She quickly tried to wipe the stain off. However, it only seemed to make things worse.

Jayson noticed what had happened. He instructed Colton, “Get her a new set of clothes.”

Colton nodded. He returned fairly quickly with a brand new men’s white shirt, which still had the price tag on, in his hand.

Nancy was a bit displeased. “Isn’t that a men’s shirt? Where did you get that from?”

She didn’t want to wear something that might belong to someone whom she didn’t even know.

Colton explained, “This is Mr. Larkin’s shirt. Since it might be uncomfortable for you to keep wearing your shirt which had been soiled, I thought you could wear this shirt first while I go and prepare a new set of clothes for you.

“It’s fine if it’s Jayson’s shirt. I’ll put it on, then.”

Nancy’s expression brightened.

That sounded more like it. Jayson was a thoughtful person who would consider what was best for her.

Colton left to buy Nancy some new clothes. Meanwhile, Jayson took the shirt and headed to his office.

As he stopped before the cupboard, Jayson looked at the beautifully wrapped items, which were neatly arranged in their respective spots.

There were many items inside the cupboard, yet Jayson had never opened any of their seals.

When he was putting the shirt back into the cupboard, Jayson spotted a big, sealed envelope left in a corner. His eyes narrowed. Jayson recalled Ariel mentioning a document during an event.

He wondered if this was the document she was talking about.

Moreover, what kind of document could Ariel be so concerned about that Jayson had not even laid his eyes on?

As for the reply, Jayson could only give her an answer once he had read the document.

He furrowed his brows and reached out to take the envelope.
