Chapter 563
Jayson’s expression was distant. Noticing Ariel’s gaze, he looked up at her. “Do you want some soup?”
Ariel didn’t bother playing along with this public display of affection. She replied, “No, thanks.”
Her gaze flicked to the window.
It seemed like no one at the table was even thinking about Nancy being outside. Jayson didn’t show any hint of unease as well.
After dinner, none of them lingered.
Betty didn’t notice anything unusual between Ariel and Jayson. After giving many reminders, she got into her car.
On her way out, Renee glanced toward the gate. She frowned slightly, then quickly got in the car. Out of sight, out of mind.
Jayson took a call and headed off to discuss work.
Only Evelyn stayed behind. She looked at Ariel. “The past is the past, but I’d like to give you some advice. Since you chose to marry Jayson, regardless of your current status, you’re still his wife. You chose not to bring up your past back then, so I hope you won’t hold any grudges over it.”
She wasn’t sure if Ariel would take offense.
If she used her current fame and status to act on a whim and divorce Jayson, how would the world view the Larkin family? After all, Nancy’s scandal had just caused quite a stir not long ago.
In Evelyn’s eyes, Ariel now had enough leverage to stir trouble.
Her expression softened slightly. “Of course, I know you wouldn’t. After all, it was you who maneuvered for this marriage back then.”
Evelyn was sure that Ariel’s love for Jayson was total and selfless. So even with newfound backing, Ariel could never be ruthless in matters of the heart. She wouldn’t dare divorce Jayson, nor could she bear to.
Ariel hadn’t expected Evelyn to say that, but she could see through the layers of meaning.
Evelyn wouldn’t have talked to her at all if she didn’t care, or if she weren’t wary and annoyed. Before, the proud and aloof Mrs. Larkin had always ignored her.
Ariel looked far too nonchalant, which made Evelyn feel a subtle unease. She frowned slightly. “Let’s be honest. Nancy’s intrusion happened because you gave her the chance. You can’t blame anyone else.” 1
Ariel finally looked at her. “So you think a mistress‘ appearance is the spouse’s fault?”

Without waiting for Evelyn’s answer, she continued, “Then I hope you don’t make any mistakes.”
Evelyn’s usual cold composure faltered. She hadn’t expected Ariel to speak to her like that.
Ariel ignored her after that. She went to change back into her own clothes.
When she came out, the house was quiet.
She didn’t intend to linger. With the Larkins gone, she had no reason to stay. Without hesitation, she
moved toward the door.
Jayson appeared from the side hall. His gaze lingered on her face for a moment. “It’s still raining. I’ll walk
you out.”
Ariel didn’t even turn around. “No need.”
He ignored her words. As she stepped out, he strode forward and draped his coat over her shoulders. “It’s
