Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 579

Chapter 579

Jayson followed behind Ariel at his own pace, watching as she weaved through the crowd, searching for the right place.

Eventually, Ariel managed to get a doctor to examine his injury.

There don’t appear to be any fractures. But his joint is dislocated, and there are soft tissue injuries. We’ll need to treat those. Please remove your shirt.

When the doctor examined the injury more closely, he couldn’t help but glance again at Jayson’s face. He was impressed by how calmly Jayson endured the pain.

Jayson did as the doctor requested. He unbuttoned his shirt and slipped it off.

Ariel furrowed her brows. The sight of the dislocated joint looked awful. Meanwhile, the cut wasn’t too

deep, but it looked painful.

Then her eyes caught on a scar running several inches along his arm.

Jayson’s skin was fair, and though the scar had faded to a lighter shade, it still stood out against the firm

lines of his arm.

That scar came from the time he had rescued her at the Spencer residence.

Ariel was surprised he hadn’t done anything about it. With the resources he had, Jayson could have

easily had it removed. And now, he was injured again because of her.

For a moment, Ariel felt an odd sense of debt, as though she owed him something.

We’ve realigned the joint, the doctor said as he finished treating him. Keep the wound dry and change

the dressing daily for the next three days.

Thank you.Jayson’s voice was calm, though a faint crease in his brow betrayed the pain.

Once he put his shirt back on, his eyes shifted to Ariel.

She quickly looked away.

Should I call Arthur to pick you up?she asked, not intending to stay with him any longer.

Checking the time, Jayson said, He’s probably still doing followup work from the incident and will need to go to the hospital to get treated afterward.

What about Colton?

He’s away on a business trip.

In conclusion, no one was available.

Ariel pressed her lips together. Her gaze flicked again to his arm, remembering the scar. Finally, she pulled the car keys from her pocket. I’ll drive you home.

Thank you.Jayson gladly accepted her offer.

As soon as they got into the car, Ariel asked, Where are you staying tonight?

Jayson put on the seatbelt and looked at her. Do you need me to point you in the right direction to get us to the marital home?(1)

She wouldn’t need him to do that, of course. She hadn’t expected him to be still living there, but she didn’t pry further.

They drove toward Crescent Point.

It was a halfhour drive. The door was equipped with a smart recognition system. Ariel drove the car into the yard and entered the garage.

Jayson unbuckled the seatbelt and glanced at Ariel. Can you help me get the laptop in the backseat?

Since his injury was because of her, Ariel didn’t mind helping him.

By the time she retrieved the laptop, Jayson had already reached the front door. She had no choice but to

follow him.

Jayson hadn’t opened it yet, so she stood silently nearby.

She could probably unlock it with her fingerprint, but this wasn’t her home anymore. The least she could

do was show some courtesy.

Jayson glanced at her, as if reading her thoughts. Lifting his good arm, he bypassed the fingerprint scanner and keyed in a password instead.

It was a new combination.
