Ariel thought back to last night.

Her emotions were unstable then, so she didn’t notice anything unusual. She only saw Jayson arriving a little disheveled, and his clothes were damp. Nothing else stood out, and he hadn’t said a word.

A man like Jayson had to be ruthless and decisive in business. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have secured his spot as the head of the Larkin family amid competition with his uncle’s family overseas.

He was bound to step on toes. After all, his methods were merciless.

Lost in thought, Ariel noticed an email in her inbox.

Jayson had sent her his personal information, letting her submit it first to handle the pressing matter at hand.

She stared at the email for a while. Once she was reasonably sure he was fine, she casually replied to Chad, “He’s fine.”

As for the fact that they hadn’t divorced, she thought it over and decided to talk to Chad and Janice in person. Sometimes, she just wanted to hear what advice her friends might offer.

How and when to deal with it? Even thinking about it made her head spin.

The next day, Ariel finished getting ready and left her unit.

She couldn’t avoid seeing the door across the hall. Chad’s text from earlier floated through her mind.

Jayson was exactly the kind of man who spoke according to his mood, whether the news was good or

bad.

Ariel turned and headed straight for the elevator.

At Faye Technologies, before she even reached her floor, a man’s voice called out, “Ari, why haven’t you been picking up your phone?”

Ariel turned and saw Morgan and Lori sitting in the lobby area. Her expression cooled instantly.

Morgan, oblivious to her look, approached with a warm smile. He seemed the very image of a caring father. “It’s been a while since I last saw you. Why haven’t you come home? Do you have time now? I need to talk to you about something.”

Lori shot Ariel a scornful look. “Dad, she’s on a roll now. Of course, she carries herself like she’s above

everyone.”

When they arrived, they made it clear to the receptionist that they were Ariel’s father and sister, yet they were still left waiting in the lobby.

As expected from a staff member trained by Ariel–so low–class and rude.

Morgan lightly chided, “Ari isn’t like that. She’s always thoughtful. Don’t say such things. What would others think if they heard?”

Ariel’s voice dripped with scorn as she watched Morgan’s hypocritical act. “Yeah, we don’t even have the same last name. What would people think?”

Morgan’s expression froze for a moment, then he forced a smile. “Ari, don’t be difficult. I came today for something important. We’ll need a quiet place to talk. This isn’t the right spot.”

Ariel simply turned and walked away, giving him no chance to continue his act.

Lori’s face fell.

Morgan’s expression hardened slightly. “This concerns you, Ari. Don’t make it ugly.”

Ariel almost laughed. There were countless shameless people in the world, and Morgan was top–tier among them.

She was actually curious what tricks Morgan could possibly pull after everything.
