Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 638

Chapter 638

Ariel’s heart skipped a beat.

She froze, a ringing sound filling her ears. Her fists clenched unconsciously. AlrightI’ll just keep observing my condition for now.

She asked nothing more.

She hadn’t taken her medication in hours. And just a few days ago, she had been intimate with Jayson. (1)

The possibility that she might be pregnant left her dazed, her thoughts swirling in confusion.

What’s wrong?Jayson’s voice startled her. After settling the hospital fees, he had been searching for

her.

His gaze flicked to the doctor before settling on her, a faint crease forming between his brows. He stepped closer, studying her carefully. Does it still hurt anywhere?

Ariel said nothing. She turned and walked away, desperate to keep him from guessing what the doctor had just implied.

Jayson watched her retreat, sensing something was off. But with her walls up, he had no choice but to follow quietly.

They weren’t heading back to Eldoria tonight.

Chad, worried about her, decided to stay and accompany her home the next day.

As Ariel and Jayson emerged from the hospital, Chad ended his phone call and turned to face them. He met Jayson’s gaze. We won’t trouble you anymore, Mr. Larkin. Ariel’s coming with me.

Jayson’s gaze shifted to Ariel.

Her mind was in chaos. Without sparing him a glance, she slipped into the cab Chad had hailed, eager for

space to think.

Chad, unaware of the tension between them, remained cold and guarded around Jayson. After a curt nod, he left with Ariel, giving Jayson no chance to linger or help.

Jayson stood rooted, fury simmering as he watched the cab disappear into the night. What happened today crossed his bottom line.

On the ride to the hotel, Ariel was silent and withdrawn, lost in thought. Even when Chad escorted her upstairs, she barely seemed present.

He handed her the access card. Are you still shaken from earlier?

Snapping out of her thoughts, she shook her head. Not really. Justnauseous and tired.

Chad’s tense shoulders eased slightly. Get some rest. I booked us a flight to Eldoria tomorrow at two. Call me if you need anything.

She forced a faint smile and rubbed her arms, trying to appear normal. 1

Inside her room, the moment the door shut, Ariel ran her hands through her hair, agitation coursing through her.

Her palm drifted to her lower abdomen. Could she really be pregnant?

She sank onto the couch, pulled out her phone, and began searching online.

But she had cancer. Surely pregnancy wasn’t possible for someone like her.

Yet every search result told her it wasn’t impossiblerare, yes, but not impossible.

Emotions churned in her chest as she stared blankly at the screen. She sat like that until her neck and shoulders ached.

Thinking about it now was pointless. She’d schedule a checkup once they were back in Eldoria. And as for Jaysonthere was no need to tell him. 2

Just as she resolved to stop spiraling, a knock came at the door.

It’s me,Jayson announced himself.

Ariel froze, staring at the door. She couldn’t bring herself to open it. She couldn’t face himnot while her mind kept circling back to the same terrifying possibility.

He stared at the tightly shut door, certain Ariel had heard him knock. She was ignoring him.
