Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 671

Liam had come by to talk to Ariel about what had happened yesterday.

By the time he arrived with Isaac, Janice had just come back.

"Is she awake?"

"Yes, let's go in," Janice said, pushing the door open.

Ariel turned toward them. She hadn't slept well last night, and her face looked drained.

When she saw Isaac, she greeted him politely, "Dr. Coleman."

Isaac let out a sigh. "I heard what happened. Just wanted to check on you. You need to take care of yourself and not get too worried."

Ariel tugged a faint smile at her pale lips. "Thanks. I will."

"Dr. Spencer, why are you here so early?" Janice asked.

Ariel clenched her fingers slightly, and her eyes were fixed on Liam.

He stepped closer and looked at her. "When I saw you yesterday, your arm had a syringe. I had it analyzed. It was a clinical blood-circulation and clot-dissolving medication mixed with some anesthetic. It's pretty strong. That's what caused your reaction."

Ariel went pale, her lips tightening. "But this is a hospital. How could that..."

And not just any hospital—this was a major medical center. How could something this terrifying happen here?

Isaac understood immediately. "They gave that to a pregnant woman? That must be deliberate."

What kind of doctor would make such a basic mistake?

Furious, Janice panted as she asked, "Did you catch them?"

Liam had no idea what was going on between them, but it was clear that it wasn't good.

Isaac suddenly remembered something and looked at Ariel in surprise. "Mr. Larkin? Your husband?"

Ariel didn't know what to say. The divorce hadn't gone through, and their relationship was broken, yet she couldn't reveal the truth to anyone.

Janice spoke for Ariel. "Is something wrong?"

Something suddenly clicked for Isaac, and he clapped his hands. "I remember now! That's why he seemed familiar when I ran into him. Liam and I returned from abroad. I specialize in transplant and oncology surgery.

"I wasn't supposed to come back with Liam because I still had patients overseas. But I was offered a high salary and bonus to return immediately. They said there was an important case here but didn't give me details.

"I've only briefly brushed past Mr. Larkin outside the hospital director's office. He's actually the one who arranged my return. It's probably because of Mr. Walker's liver transplant."
