Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 729

Even Perry's expression had turned complicated. He clenched his fists at his sides.

It would be a lie to say that he wasn't shocked.

Anyone could see Jayson's care for Ariel now. It turned out that he loved her so much.

Suddenly, a chilling thought struck Perry.

If Jayson cared for Ariel with such painstaking attention, had he really been unaware of Perry's feelings for her back then?

The idea made Perry's throat dry, and his chest felt like it was being squeezed. He turned abruptly, walking away.

Matt didn't notice at first. He quickly turned and called out, "Aren't you going in? We just said we'd eat together."

Perry didn't answer.

All of a sudden, he felt ashamed and unable to face Jayson.

Besides, he still hadn't been able to forget Ariel. He needed time to steady himself again.

When Samson reached the police station, Cecilia had already gone through the urine test.

The moment she saw him, her expression was icy. "I want out. Tonight."

She didn't want to stay here another second.

Samson knew Cecilia was spoiled and sheltered. She wasn't built to stomach this kind of situation.

But he still told her the truth with a cold face. "You really think running into Jayson today was just a coincidence? If he hadn't set you up, would you even be here?"

Cecilia's expression darkened.

That was the last thing she wanted to admit.

Samson gave a mocking smile. "He's probably had your dirty secrets figured out for a while. All he needed was the right opening to strike. You think you're walking out of this clean? You'd better hope the next moves he's planning don't finish you off. Tonight is only the beginning."

He could already tell Cecilia's future.

Cecilia shot to her feet. "If he dares come after me, he'd better be ready for the fallout. Going down together isn't in his best interest."

Samson could tell she was close to unraveling.

He pulled the mood stabilizers from his pocket and handed them over. "You need to get a grip. We're talking about Jayson Larkin."

Only then did Jayson slowly trace her wrist bone with his thumb. His eyes fixed on her. They were calm on the surface, yet turbulent underneath, burning hot enough to sear.

Ariel was speechless. He was really good with his words.

She used to hate it most when he would just sit there with that half-smile, saying nothing. His gaze would roam over her inch by inch like he was memorizing her.

As expected, Ariel was done talking to him again, but he didn't mind.

However, after feeling her warmth up close just now, he finally felt a measure of calm inside.

Jayson was about to leave when Katie appeared at the door.

She saw them standing there but didn't interfere. She only said to Ariel, "Come inside."

Ariel immediately sensed Katie's mood.

And of course Jayson noticed too. He let go of Ariel and stepped back, watching silently as she walked inside with Katie.

He understood Katie's attitude toward him all too well.

Ariel's illness and abortion weighed on her, not to mention the scene at the birthday party that day and Evelyn's stance. Those were the reasons behind Katie's coldness.
