Seeing that, Jayson froze in place. His eyes locked on the name.
After a long moment, he finally let out a breath and sent Ariel a text. "Where are you? Want to grab dinner tonight? I can pick you up."
After sending the message, he stared at the chat for a moment and then pinned it to the top.
…
Ariel was in a meeting with Faye Technologies' tech department, discussing current system optimizations with Noah and Chad.
Chad frowned when he saw her. "You just never stop, do you? Why don't you rest for once?"
Ariel watched the numbers flicker on the screen and smiled slightly. "I'm fine. Keeping busy helps. Plus, my surgery date is basically set."
Chad put down his folder and frowned. "That surgery plan…"
He had heard Janice mention it. Ariel's condition wasn't good. It might require a full hysterectomy.
Ariel blinked and kept jotting down data. "I have to do whatever has to be done."
Chad saw the worry lurking under her calm and patted her shoulder. "As long as the operation goes well, the rest can be sorted."
Ariel's eyes flickered slightly, and she finally nodded.
They finished the tech meeting, and there was progress to check at Nexura Solutions' factory. Chad insisted on handling that himself, keeping Ariel out of it, so she let him.
She stayed at Faye Technologies for a long time before heading back.
When she went down to the parking lot, she checked her phone before getting into the car and saw Jayson's message.
His tone was calm and composed. As she read the words, she could almost hear him speaking.
In truth, what he said did strike a chord with her.
It was clear there had been misunderstandings on both sides on the day of her diagnosis.
He knew her well. Even though she didn't answer whether she wanted a ride or dinner, he knew that if she were completely against it, she would have ignored him.
Smiling, he typed. "Faye Tech?"
Before he left, he went into the hidden walk-in closet off the master bedroom.
It held many things Ariel hadn't taken with her—her clothes, bags, and jewelry.
He grabbed a cashmere shawl. It could get cold at night in Eldoria, and he guessed she might not have brought enough.
Georgia saw him heading out and blurted, "Mr. Larkin, you're not fully recovered. Where are you going?"
Jayson started down the stairs with his phone in hand. Just as he was about to answer, a text popped up.
Instantly, his features snapped into a mask of cold stone.
"Ariel is with me. If you want her safe, do as I say! Come to this address alone. If you try anything, I won't hesitate to take her down with me!"

The readers' comments on the novel: Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson)
Can you give me more chapters? I was hoping for a happy ending with Ariel and Jayson. Janice with Wade, and if not, put her with Chad, Matt, or even Liam....
Nice and amazing story with gripping turns, but can you give more chapters? And please we need more romance as readers, it has been dragging on a lot, maybe romance, happy ending and end it soon....
