Arthur hadn't informed any members of the Larkin family about the incident.
It was nearly midnight when Ariel was wheeled out of the operating room. Her broken arm had been realigned and placed in a cast.
Lucas turned pale at the sight of her condition. He followed the medical staff as they transferred Ariel to her ward.
Maybe none of this would've happened if he had managed to stop Morgan, who had clearly lost all sense of reason.
Lucas' eyes were red as he sat beside Ariel's bed, gazing at her pale complexion. He held her hand tightly.
The anesthesia wore off quickly, and Ariel began to stir. She could feel someone holding her hand. Her mind was still foggy, but her first thought was—could it be Jayson?
When she opened her eyes, she met Lucas' gaze. He looked genuinely relieved. "You're awake? Does your arm still hurt? Should I call a nurse for painkillers?"
Ariel slowly recalled the events. She glanced down at her hand, still clasped in Lucas'. She gently pulled it away. "That won't be necessary."
She didn't bother with courtesy—her head was pounding.
Lucas sensed her coldness, and the joy in his eyes faded. "Are you worried about Jayson?"
Ariel looked him straight in the eye. "Shouldn't I be?"
Lucas was speechless. His expression turned awkward and tense. "He was just transferred out of surgery. He's in the ICU now."
Ariel's heart ached at the mention of Jayson being warded in the ICU.
Despite the lingering effects of the anesthesia, she pushed herself up and tried to get out of bed.
Lucas clenched his fists but quickly moved to stop her. "He's not dying! You don't have to get so worked up! Just lie down!"
Ariel stared at him, expressionless. "Do you think you have the right to stop me? Lucas, you know exactly why Morgan did what he did today."
Lucas fell silent, his face stiffening.
Arthur couldn't fathom how Jayson had managed to catch Ariel despite his own wounds and blood loss. He had completely disregarded his own safety, relying solely on sheer willpower to save her.
After staring at Jayson for a long moment, Ariel lowered her gaze and took a deep breath to steady herself. "You've done well. Keep his condition confidential. Make sure no one at work finds out. I'll inform the Larkins when the time is right."
Arthur had a grim look on his face. "We're in a critical phase. Bluum Corp is about to partner with the government on a major project. Mr. Larkin is supposed to lead the negotiations. The contract isn't finalized yet, and any misstep could be disastrous. So many eyes are on this project."
Some people had already begun considering switching allegiances since Shane and his parents returned to Croinia. If Jayson's side showed weakness now, it could be catastrophic.
Ariel understood the pressure Jayson faced. All they could do was prevent the news from leaking.
Just then, a voice called out behind her.
"Ari, what's happened to Jayson?"
Ariel glanced over her shoulder and spotted Shane. She hadn't the faintest idea when he'd arrived.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson)
Can you give me more chapters? I was hoping for a happy ending with Ariel and Jayson. Janice with Wade, and if not, put her with Chad, Matt, or even Liam....
Nice and amazing story with gripping turns, but can you give more chapters? And please we need more romance as readers, it has been dragging on a lot, maybe romance, happy ending and end it soon....
