Early that morning, Janice had texted Wade to let him know she would be going on a business trip. That was when she found out Wade was also on the same assignment list.

So he had stopped by the Swanson residence to pick her up, and they headed to the airport together.

When Ariel spotted them from a distance, she stopped and turned to Jayson. "You should go now."

Jayson's gaze deepened. "Alright. Call me when you land. I have some company matters to handle, but once I'm done, I'll fly over to see you."

Ariel blinked in surprise. "You don't need to go through all that trouble."

"What else am I supposed to do? Sit around missing you?" His tone was calm and composed, but coming from that refined, aloof face of his, it felt oddly out of place to Ariel.

She hadn't thought of that.

"I'll go when I can. Then we'll head to Nacsall together." Jayson gently pinched her cheek. There was a trace of reluctance in his eyes.

He couldn't believe how clingy he had become. That wasn't like him at all.

Even last night, knowing Ariel would be gone for two months, he had barely been able to sleep.

Two months felt unbearably long. He had never felt time move this slowly before.

Ariel, too, couldn't stop thinking about their baby. She took a quiet breath. "Okay."

She checked the time and waved at him.

But Jayson didn't move, still watching her.

She waved again. "I'll be heading up soon. You—"

Before she could finish, Jayson bent down, cupped her face in both hands, and kissed her without hesitation.

"Wait for me."

After saying that, he stepped back and looked at her with a faint smile.

Ariel's expression froze for a moment. After all, people were coming and going, and her colleagues were watching from behind.

It suddenly felt like they were dating all over again. Everything was new and thrilling.

Her heart fluttered, but she kept her expression calm and simply nodded. "Okay."

Without another glance, she turned and walked away.
