At first, Jayson was wiping the cutlery for Ariel. He paused momentarily when she suddenly sat down beside him.

Jayson slowly turned his gaze toward her. Ariel looked at him calmly—her expression the same as always—yet something about her eyes felt different. It made his heart flutter unexpectedly.

His pulse quickened. Narrowing his eyes slightly, Jayson set the cutlery aside and met her gaze. "You're sitting so close to me?"

Ariel picked up the spoon he had just finished wiping. Their arms brushed, but she didn't seem to mind.

"Can't I? Should I move back to my previous spot?" she teased, starting to rise.

Jayson smiled lazily and slipped an arm around her waist, pulling her gently back down. "Ms. Walker, can't you take a simple joke?"

Ariel arched an eyebrow. "It's your fault for trying to act like you're clueless."

She was positive Jayson had asked her that question on purpose.

Jayson didn't deny it. He wasn't the type to get flustered over something so small. Instead, he pulled her even closer.

"I was just a little surprised. You've never been the one to take the initiative when we're together. I have to do something once in a while to remind you to appreciate my company."

"You really do have such a sharp tongue."

Jayson could utter the most outrageous things with a perfectly straight face.

Leaning back, he rested an elbow on the couch and propped his chin on his hand, his gaze fixed on her. "Moments like this are rare. I should indulge while I can."

Ariel cleared her throat and picked up her glass, taking a sip of water to compose herself. "How did you find me?"

Jayson replied, "We detected signals from your phone. Didn't you notice? They blocked all communication in that area, but their equipment wasn't stable all the time.
