Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 826

"Nope. She's in her room calling our friends and relatives, bragging about how pretty her great-granddaughter is, and inviting everyone to come visit."

Jayson walked over and stood behind Ariel. He removed the towel wrapped around her hair and began gently drying it.

Ariel always took extra care with her hair. She refused to use hairdryers, believing the heat would damage her hair. Instead, she preferred to dry it patiently with a towel before letting it air dry naturally.

As she thought about how happy and excited Betty had been earlier, Ariel couldn't help but chuckle.

She had grown used to Jayson helping her with her hair. Back when they first got married, he often did it for her—it saved her time and effort. So, she simply let him dry her hair while she applied her skincare products.

"I only have a few days off. I still need to complete the tasks assigned to me. So, I'll be heading to Bellador in a few days to finish what needs to be done. I should be able to wrap everything up and return within a month."

Despite her composed tone, there was a trace of sadness in her eyes when she glanced at Claire, who was fast asleep.

She didn't want to leave her baby, but work was her responsibility. The project between Croinia and Bellador was of great importance, and Ariel had to do her part to ensure its success.

Naturally, she had to set her personal feelings aside for now.

Jayson knew how seriously Ariel took her work. She loved what she did, and he had always supported her.

When he was done drying her hair, he set the towel aside and turned her swivel chair so that she was facing him. Leaning forward, he placed his hands on the armrests and gazed at her. Their faces were just inches apart.

"You can't bear to leave Claire, can you?" he asked.

Jayson leaned in aggressively, forcing Ariel to tilt her head sharply back to hold his gaze.

"I can't," she admitted softly. "But I can't let personal matters interfere with work."

Jayson tapped his finger lightly on the armrest. "What about me?"

"What?"

"Don't you feel sad about leaving me behind?"

His tone was calm, yet there was something undeniably seductive in the way he looked at her. It sounded like an ordinary question—but it wasn't.
