Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 835

Matt and the others were chatting not too far away.

Checking his watch, Matt said in a slightly puzzled tone, "It's almost time for the wedding to start. Why does it seem like the couple isn't here yet?"

Perry remained silent, his lips pursed and his eyes reflecting a hint of conflict.

Matt glanced around. Many young men and women from wealthy and notable families had been invited to the wedding. He could hear some of them murmuring unpleasant remarks.

"I think the Larkins are just trying to appease Ariel by holding this wedding," one young woman said with a smirk.

The person beside her replied, "I know what you mean. Everyone knows Mr. Larkin kept his marriage to Ariel a secret for years. It's obvious he doesn't truly love her.

"If they didn't hold this wedding, it would look like they weren't showing Ariel enough respect. Given her unusual background and current status, the Larkins are probably doing this to please her.

"Honestly, someone like Mr. Larkin could easily find women far better than Ariel. I bet she's the one who pushed for this wedding to boost her ego."

"They even invited the press and all these guests. Isn't it obvious what they're trying to do? Ariel's probably worried people will gossip about her being neglected by her husband."

Many other guests shared similar thoughts, though only a few of the younger ones voiced them aloud. They spoke in hushed tones, assuming it was fine since most people seemed to agree.

"Ms. Walker is a smart, beautiful, and capable woman. Don't you have anyone else to gossip about?"

Zach had overheard their conversation as he approached. He looked at the group with scorn and disdain. There were both men and women among them, and Zach found their comments about Ariel deeply offensive.

Despite their privileged backgrounds, some clearly lacked basic manners and maturity, likely due to being spoiled from a young age.
