Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 857

Ariel wasn't sure about all the details, but she could tell Janice was really hurting. After all, Wade had been the one person she had loved since forever.

Everyone had said Janice would be Wade's wife. Yet after nearly 20 years, it was Janice who made this decision.

Ariel could only imagine how painful that must be.

"Have you discussed it with him?" Ariel asked softly as she scooted closer.

Janice hesitated, unsure how to answer.

It was more like she had told him, and he had agreed. Calling it a discussion felt like a stretch.

Even though Wade never said much, she knew deep down he was relieved. He didn't even need to play the bad guy to bring up breaking off the engagement.

"Sort of. I'll get everything sorted quickly, and then I'll be free!" she said, waving it off as she finished her wine in one gulp.

But the casual front didn't fool Ariel.

Janice and Wade's situation was far more complicated than hers with Jayson. It was a bond formed since childhood.

Janice had been raised to believe she would marry Wade. It was a thought so deeply rooted that breaking away felt like tearing herself apart.

All Ariel could do was support her.

Chad swirled his glass and looked at Janice.

"There are plenty of men better than him. Lots of people who'll love you and understand you. Never settle for less than you deserve in relationships."

Janice froze for a moment.

Jayson, meanwhile, calmly looked up and glanced at Chad.

They had planned on eating some good food that night, but midway through, Janice got a call. She was told to come home immediately.

Worried something was wrong, she hurriedly left the dinner.
