Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 863

Wade's question sounded like a taunt, even if his expression didn't show it outright. Yet beneath his tone was a certainty, as if he already had the upper hand.

Janice couldn't quite figure out what he was truly thinking.

Did he believe from the start she could never leave him? Or did he think she was just playing hard to get?

She gritted her teeth and enunciated each word, "Do you think I'm joking with you?"

Wade didn't reply. His expression was cold. "No need to try on outfits together. I have work to do later."

He declined Janice's offer to try on wedding outfits together.

Janice felt a deep frustration. She had only said it to stir the pot, hoping to unsettle someone who cared about him.

She never expected Wade to refuse.

But as she thought about it, it made sense. Wade wouldn't want Alicia to see that scene and feel upset. Of course, he would protect Alicia.

No matter what the unloved person did, it made no difference.

Janice sneered. Without another word, she turned and walked away.

There was no point in arguing with him. If Wade wanted to protect Alicia, she would stay out of it.

To Wade, Janice was obviously emotional. He frowned, then looked at Alicia, who remained silent. "Get back to work. Call me if anything comes up."

Alicia smiled faintly. "It's fine, Wade. You should go comfort Jan. Don't let her misunderstand."

Wade paused and glanced at her. After a nod, he turned and hurried after Janice.

Watching the scene, Alicia pursed her lips for a long moment.

After all, Wade and Janice had a childhood bond. She felt uncomfortable about it.

Especially since Wade gave Janice so much room in this matter. Whatever that room was—love or something else—Alicia didn't like it.
