Dead at Heart (Ariel and Jayson) novel Chapter 874

"Janice, haven't you had enough of these tantrums?" Wade asked.

Janice snickered. "What is it that you want me to do? Isn't it better that I'm setting you free? You can spend the rest of your life with your sister instead. I'm sure you won't let public opinion affect your relationship."

Her words dripped with sarcasm.

Wade clenched his jaw, staring at her. "When will you grow up? Even Allie has decided to overlook what you did to her. When will you face your mistakes?"

Janice blinked in shock. "My mistakes? What did I ever do to her?"

She truly had no idea what he meant. Yet to Wade, it was clear she hadn't realized the gravity of her actions. His disappointment deepened.

Still, Wade meant what he had told Alicia.

Even knowing Janice had been the reason Alicia nearly died in the mountains, Wade still couldn't let go of his feelings for her. They had been together too long.

"Since you don't feel like picking the rings today, we'll do it some other time."

He didn't explain further. He reckoned it would only cause more issues if he were to bring up the incident now.

Though Alicia had chosen to forgive, Wade had secretly checked Janice's phone records. Alicia had indeed called her that day.

Wade had a hard time accepting and believing that Janice was capable of such cruelty.

Having spent years learning to dance, the leg injury brought Alicia to the brink of a mental breakdown. Her dream was over; she could no longer dance. It was only much later that Alicia was able to cultivate a new passion.

Wade felt strongly that he and Janice should make amends to Alicia. As her future husband, he accepted the need to share the burden of responsibility. He inhaled deeply.

Suddenly, his thoughts fixed on Chad, whom he'd run into earlier. A strange, restless feeling instantly rose within him, prompting Wade to do something completely out of character.

"I assure you, the wedding will happen as planned. Let's focus on building a happy life together. I promised I wouldn't do anything to betray your trust. I hope you'll have some faith in me."

With that, Wade left, unwilling to argue further.
