Dear Ex Wife Please take me back (Athena and Alex) novel Chapter 117

LEAH

“Mummy, can we go to a play park today?”

An irritating little voice reaches my ears, cutting through the music, playing softly in the background.

I clench my teeth so hard my jaw aches.

How have I managed to raise this little brat?

Ugh.

I set down my eyeliner with a sharp clink on my dresser.

Focus, Leah. Focus.

You need him.

You need him to get what you want.

He's the golden ticket.

“Mummy?” he says again, his voice higher, whinier.

“What!” I snap, whipping around so fast he flinches.

I catch the way his lower lip wobbles that stupid, pathetic look he gives when he’s about to cry.

The anger simmers hotter under my skin.

“Why are you so damn annoying? Go find Miranda and bother her!”

I turn back to the mirror, snatching up the mascara wand with enough force to nearly snap it in half.

From the corner of my eye, I see him hesitate. He shifts on his tiny feet, fiddling with the hem of his shirt.

I've fought so hard to be where I am. Nothing was handed to me, nothing!

Not my status, not my skills.

Nothing!

My mother was married after being a side chick, and that has stained our family. It made life hard, no one wanted to do business with us, and no one gave us any invites to events.

But you know what I did?

I had every rich man's information printed and stuck on the wall. Each one was a target and each one an opportunity. Alex was the hardest catch. Well…. Until I knew his little secret.

I was an intern for the Dawson's when I read an email forwarded from his doctor asking for their help. You know the funny thing, the stupid drug causing chaos was actually meant for him.

They started the program, hoping to be able to help people like him. I was given his file and as you guest right.

Took the opportunity.

I stole two doses and always moved with them. Knowing it will happen eventually, but it didn't.

I was running out of time. So, I triggered it the best way I know and saved him.

He should have married me by now! I kept him alive.

Those ungrateful old people discovered I took two doses and kicked me out!

Me.

A highly skilled intern with an extremely promising future.

They say don't speak ill of the dead. But damn, hearing they had died was the best news I'd received all year long.

I laughed all the way to my achievements and became one of the best doctors in the country!

Except it still wasn't enough for the Kings.

Those devils! Sitting on my victory.

I didn't dwell too much on it because the Dawson's were dead. So imagine how I felt when I returned and realized their daughter had stolen my man!

“I want Daddy!” I hear a small voice pulling me back to the present.

Daddy!

Yes.

Let's go see Daddy!

“Of course, sweetie. Let's go see Daddy. Make sure you ask him when he will take us to live with him, okay?”

He slowly nods, and my smile grows.

“Good! Go get dressed we go and see Daddy!”

………..

“Daddy!” Rayen squeals the moment he spots Alex.

Alex turns around, his face lighting up in a way that makes my stomach churn with a sickening cocktail of bitterness and longing.

He never looks at me like that. Only at Rayen.

Dressed in a suit and his hair perfectly combed, he looks so good my eyes hurt.

God took his time with this one.

“This is a parcel from Dr. Dawson,” the man says, his voice low but clear enough for me to catch from the driveway.

Dr. Dawson?

I stiffen slightly.

Unless there is another Dawson I don't know about, he must be talking about Athena.

Why the hell would she send him an envelope?
