ALEX
“Did you kill him?” Athena’s sweet voice asks, her lips parted in disbelief.
I glare at Luca, who is standing with a damn cigarette to his lips, and an annoying smirk.
I should have killed this idiot.
“Alex.” Athena repeats, and I pull her closer to me.
“I didn't kill him, babe. Luca is an idiot you shouldn't take seriously.”
“I'll have you know, your man is lying. He also beat me to a pulp.” He exaggerates.
I grab a pillow and throw it at him. “Get the fuck out.”
“See what I mean? So much temper.” Luca laughs.
I shoot him a look that promises pain. He lifts both hands in surrender but doesn’t lose the damn smirk.
“Luca, stop provoking him!” Athena shakes her head. Before turning to face me, “Isabelle told me he's in a comma, Alex. What did you do?” There is disapproval in her tone and I don't like it.
Especially that she easily forgave him and is even defending him.
I sigh and pull her closer to me, my hand cradling the back of her head. Her scent grounds me. Reminds me what my heart is beating for.
“Baby, if I wanted him dead we would be at his funeral. Luca's and Ryan's included. But I held back because you'd be upset.”
Her eyes widen, “Putting someone in a comma is holding back?”
I smile. “It took a whole lot of control. You need to give me something in return.”
“I can't believe you! Don't send anyone to finnish him off, Alex. I won't have it.” She eyes me, her beautiful eyes full of suspicion.
I should be pissed off. She’s defending someone who nearly got her killed.
But all I can think about is how stunning she looks when she’s mad. How her chest rises with every breath, how her voice shakes not from fear but from care.
For everyone around her. Even those who don't deserve it.
Damn, this woman is beautiful it hurts to look at her.
"See you around." Luca announces and shuts the door. But neither of us responds to him as the atmosphere heats.
I place my hands on her waist, my fingers digging into the soft curve of her hips, and pull her flush against me.
“You think I’d let anyone touch him now that you’ve asked me not to?” I mutter, my voice low, thick with need. “You’re the only thing stopping me from dragging him out of that hospital bed and finishing what I started.”
“Alex…” she warns.
“I don’t like how you're defending another man, baby. Stop it,” I growl.
Her eyes flash, and she opens her mouth to speak but I don't give her the chance.
I slam my mouth onto hers.
It’s not gentle.
It’s not sweet.
It’s raw, claiming and hungry.
She gasps, and I take her breath, her voice, her hesitation. I swallow all of it, devouring her like a starving man.
Her fingers curl into my shirt as I lift her off the ground with one arm, gripping the back of her thigh with the other. Her dress rides up with the movement, soft fabric bunched at her waist, her bare legs wrapping around me on instinct.
I walk to our bedroom with her in my arms and my lips still on hers.
She moans into my mouth, and it makes my control snap further.
My teeth graze her lower lip and I bite down just enough to make her shiver.
“You drive me insane,” I whisper against her lips.
