Dear Wife, I Hate You (by Josephine Mbanefo) novel Chapter 56

Nolan’s Pov

The moment her palm touched mine, I paused.

It was soft. Warm. Delicate. And for a second, everything slowed.

Was this a green light? Was she… opening up to me?

Maybe she’s starting to feel something. Maybe I don’t even need to tell her anything about my brother anymore. Not like Killian was a monster, but to her? He was the worst.

She held onto my hand, and we walked out together.

We got into the car and the drive to the store was silent but not awkward. Just… calm. Like we were settling into something familiar. Something real.

When we got there, I gave her a quick nod, and she followed me in. We picked up everything we needed–juice, wine, a few basics, and of course, everything for pancakes.

By the time we got back, I said, “I’ll just place everything in the kitchen.”

She nodded. “Yeah, I’ll just go pack my hair real quick. I forgot something earlier… I need a change of clothes. Something comfy. You know… to cook in.”

I raised a brow. “That won’t be a problem. Go to the room–I’ll bring you something to wear.”

“Thank you,” she said, already heading up.

I went to my room and grabbed a shirt and shorts. They were mine, obviously. But when I looked at the shorts, I hesitated.

Nah. They wouldn’t fit her.

And worse… she’d think I was being weird. A pervert, maybe.

Still, I took them both. Just in case.

I went up and knocked on the door. She opened it, looking at me expectantly.

“Here are the clothes,” I said.

She took them, holding up the shirt and shorts.

“Oh my God, this is so big,” she laughed softly. “I can’t wear it. Whose clothes are these?”

“Mine,” I said, a little amused. “You’re the first lady I’ve brought here. So, it’s just my stuff.”

“Oh…” she said, her voice a bit lower now.

“If you have a problem with that, I’ll-”

“No, no, no,” she cut me off. “I don’t. Just… the shorts are too big. I can’t wear them. You’re much taller and broader, obviously.”

“Okay… maybe I should run out and grab-”

“You know what?” she interrupted again. “Don’t bother. I’ll just wear your shirt. It’ll be long on me, like a dress or something.”

“You sure you’ll be comfortable?” I asked.

“Yeah Certainly.”

I nodded. “Cool. I’ll be in the kitchen waiting.”

As I walked off, I felt this heat in my chest.

This was it. Game on.

She’s wearing my shirt. Her scent is going to be on it.

I promise–I swear–I’m going to carry that shirt everywhere. I’ll worship it like it’s sacred.

I walked into the kitchen and started bringing everything out–the eggs, flour, milk, syrup, just all the pancake stuff. It felt weird how normal this was. Like, how am I just here, in the kitchen, with Lilith? And why does it feel so damn right?

And then she walked in.

Wearing my shirt. Just that shirt.

God.

My mouth literally dried.

Her small body swimming in my shirt like that? Her bare legs out like that?

She looked so damn sexy, I wanted to bite my lip.

I mean, it’s not just about the sexiness. It’s not.

But damn, her skin looked so smooth, her legs so clean. Her body? Perfect.

Nobody–and I mean nobody–has ever looked this good to me before.

I was already turned on just be the sight of her, and now my thought is drifting back to what she was doing in her room….touching herself and Cumming just like a good girl.

Then she looked up and caught me staring.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked. “I look like a joker, don’t I?”

A joker? If that’s what jokers look like, I want to be one for life.

“Not at all, I said, clearing my throat. “You look… beautiful.”

“Did you just compliment me?” she raised her brow.

“I’m just telling you the truth.”

She smiled, just a little. That smile could end wars.

“Thanks. So…. where are we going to start from?”

“I’m going to follow your lead,” I said, because truth is, I wasn’t even thinking about the pancakes anymore.

She walked up to me and took the apron I was holding, then started explaining the recipe. Step by step. Talking about mixing the flour and eggs and… I swear I didn’t hear half of it.

All I could do was stare at her lips as she spoke. Her lips are just-

They move like sin.

And the way she moves around the kitchen like she belongs here? God.

“Can I ask you a favor?” she asked suddenly, pulling me out of my thoughts.

“Anything.”

“Can I stay here for a little while?” she said softly. “Killian and I are just… not working right now. I just want to breathe. I feel okay here. I’ll send someone to bring my drawing stuff. If that’s okay with you.”
