Dear Wife, I Hate You (by Josephine Mbanefo) novel Chapter 63

Lilith’s Pov

The moment Killian left the room, I just stood there, frozen.

“Oh my God… what just happened?” I whispered to myself.

Killian. Kissed. Me.

By himself.

Not by accident. Not in passing.

A real kiss. Deep. Intense. Heated.

Why?

And what did he even mean by, “I’ll start performing my husband duties in this version?”

Does he mean more kissing?

More touching?

Oh God… sex?

I could still feel his lips on mine, his touch on my skin. My body was still warm. My hands moved to my cheeks as if to calm. myself down.

Then I sat down on the bed, slowly. My heart was beating like a drum.

Sex with Killian?

Was I jumping too fast?

We only kissed–and here I was thinking about being in his bed.

But… that’s what he meant, right?

Still, I’m not ready. Not yet. Even if I wanted to feel what it was like, to be touched, to be wanted… it’s not the right time. Not after everything.

Not with him.

So I pushed the thought to the back of my mind. Maybe Killian was just teasing me. Maybe he didn’t mean it. He always plays mind games anyway… right?

.

I needed to talk to someone. I picked up my phone and dialed Emily.

She picked up fast.

“Hey babe,” I said.

“Lily! Where are you? I was about to go check on you again,” Emily replied.

“I’m home,” I said. “Killian came to Nolan’s place and dragged me back. You won’t believe what happened–Emily, we need to talk. Come over this evening.”

“Ooooh, the tea must be hot,” she said, laughing. “You know I’ll be there. Don’t miss me too much.”

“I won’t,” I said, smiling for the first time. “Love you.”

“Love you too.”

And with that. I ended the call.

Then I paused.

Zoey.

I hadn’t heard from her in a while, and I needed to check in. I dialed her number, but she didn’t pick. Probably busy.

That left only one person.

Nolan.

I hesitated for a moment, then I called him.

He picked up on the first ring.

“Hello?” I said softly.

“Hey,” he answered. “How are you doing?”

“I’m fine,” I said. “I just… I wanted to apologize. For everything. I’m so sorry for the scene today, for you and Killian fighting.

It was never meant to happen. I’ll talk to him, I’ll apologize on your behalf. It wasn’t your fault, Nolan, it was mine. Please don’t be angry at me. Please don’t hate me.”

I was rambling, but I couldn’t help it. The guilt was drowning me.

Then I heard him chuckle gently.

“It’s fine, Lilith,” he said. “It’s not the first time Killian and I have had a disagreement.”

He said he was okay… but there was something in his voice. Disappointment, maybe? Sadness?

I felt a sting in my chest.

“I owe you a cup of coffee,” I said quickly, trying to lighten the mood. “At the best café in town. Just say yes. Please?”

“I’ve never been angry at you, Lilith,” he said softly. “Why would I be?”

That made me smile, warm and honest.

“Thank you,” I whispered.

“I’ll get your clothes for you,” Nolan offered.

“No, it’s okay. I’ll send someone,” I said.

“I insist.”

“…Okay,” I said, giving in. “Thank you.”

We both paused.

Then: “Goodbye,” we said at the same time.

I ended the call, still holding the phone against my chest.
