Darren spoke calmly, “Sorry for the interruption. Let’s continue with the bids.”
On stage, the TOPMS Hospital’s head of procurement adjusted his glasses and announced, “Ms. Lee, please continue your presentation on N-LINK’s artificial heart technology.”
Charlotte finished her presentation with poise, expertly covering the remaining points.
Meanwhile, Bradley stepped forward and handed over their supporting documents to the procurement head.
The man took the packet, leafed through the pages, and looked up at Charlotte with genuine respect. “Thank you for your presentation, Ms. Lee.”
It was clear to everyone in the hall: Lottie had thoroughly impressed the panel of experts.
Next up was the patent presentation from the Harrington Group.
Xena handled this section as well. Though her delivery was polished and confident, the audience’s interest had already waned.
When she finished, she handed her documents to the procurement head.
He skimmed a few pages, then, with a quiet sigh, shook his head.
The contrast was obvious.
Xena bit her lip as she stepped off the stage, returning to Darren’s side.
At the same moment, Bradley wheeled Charlotte past Darren’s row.
Charlotte didn’t spare him a glance, letting Bradley guide her smoothly to her reserved seat.
But Darren’s eyes followed her the whole way, unable to look away.
Xena noticed every bit of it.
She had come today convinced this would be Charlotte’s downfall—a chance for Darren to witness her own talent and promise. Yet, to her shock…
Charlotte had turned the tables on everyone.
Even Darren’s gaze was fixed on Charlotte and wouldn’t budge.
He was looking at her.
He was still looking at her.
He couldn’t stop looking at her.
Jealousy and rage flooded Xena, her eyes burning red.
She glanced up at the ceiling above Charlotte—where a staff member was adjusting a heavy camera, recording the entire proceedings.
A sharp glint flickered in Xena’s eyes. She pulled out her phone and sent a message.
He looked up just in time to see the camera rig above come loose, the heavy device plummeting toward the audience.
And it was headed straight for Charlotte’s seat.
Darren didn’t hesitate for even a heartbeat. In a flash, he vaulted past Bradley and threw himself over Charlotte.
*CRASH!*
The projector smashed into his head.
“Mr. Harrington!”
“He’s bleeding! Someone call an ambulance!”
Chaos erupted. Amid the panic, Darren looked down at Charlotte’s stunned but unharmed face.
Blood was running down his forehead, threatening to stain her pristine dress. He caught the drop in his palm, not wanting to dirty her.
“Charlotte… I admit defeat…”
His final words faded into the dull thud of his body hitting the floor.
“Don’t go…”
