Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 21

“Charlotte, you…”

Darren’s voice trembled with every syllable.

Charlotte fought through the agony that clawed at her back, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Don’t worry… my injuries won’t delay the paperwork at court tomorrow…”

A cold, brittle laugh escaped Darren. “Good. Very good.”

He stared at the wounds on her back, an unexpected ache tightening somewhere deep inside his chest.

Swallowing hard, Darren pulled out a stack of divorce papers he’d already prepared. “You’ve worked so hard for this—I won’t let all your efforts go to waste. Forget about Nathan’s version; sign this one.”

Charlotte glanced at the documents.

It was all spelled out in harsh, legal language: she would leave with nothing, forfeit all rights to see her son, even sever any connection with him.

Without a word, she grabbed the pen, lifting her arm that felt heavy as lead. With careful, deliberate strokes, she signed her name.

As the ink dried, it felt as if the boulder that had weighed on her chest for three long years finally shattered—reduced to dust, drifting away.

She had always thought she’d be inconsolable in this moment.

But now, Charlotte realized: letting go of a marriage that had only ever diminished her, releasing a love that had never been worth the pain, walking away from a family without warmth or feeling—yes, it hurt. But once the pain passed, there was freedom.

She raised her pale face, lips cracked but curled into a faint, resolute smile. Her voice was weak, yet edged with relief. “Darren… your turn.”

Darren’s gaze fell on the custom-made credit card sitting on her nightstand. He forced his voice to remain cold. “Leaving with nothing means you don’t take a single thing from the Harrington family.”

Charlotte managed a dry, humorless laugh. “Right. Almost forgot.”

With effort, she inched across the bed, picked up the card Nathan Harrington had given her, and pressed it into Darren’s hand.

“This was from Nathan. He insisted I keep it, but I know he won’t rest easy if I do. I’m returning it to you. There’s nothing left of the Harringtons with me now.”

She looked up at him. “Are you satisfied, Darren? Will you sign now?”

His cigarette trembled between his fingers, scattering ash at his feet.

A sigh forced its way out of his throat. “It’s over.”

“Charlotte, I’ll never have to watch you act like you care again…”

Her screams soon faded, leaving only silence in the hospital room. Darren walked out, leaving behind a trail of cigarette butts.

He drove away, only to be interrupted by a frantic call from the nanny.

The woman’s voice was rushed, nearly hysterical. “Mr. Harrington, Noah had an allergic reaction to a dish the new nanny made. She ran off as soon as she realized what happened…”

Darren jerked the steering wheel, racing back to the house.

The moment he burst into the nursery, his heart nearly stopped.

Noah lay curled up on the bed, his tiny body covered in angry red welts. His face was so swollen, Darren could barely recognize his son’s features.
