Delete My Love for You novel Chapter 28

How could he—Darren Harrington, CEO of the Harrington Group and heir to the entire Harrington family fortune—be treated like some plaything by a woman?

He let out a cold laugh.

Reaching into the closet, Darren yanked out a crisp uniform and tore it apart with his bare hands. He grabbed another and shredded it just as easily. Then came a third—this one made of silky, seductive fabric. He froze.

Charlotte had worn this to seduce him. That night, he’d taken her seven times, missing even the company’s morning meeting the next day.

His throat tightened. Darren unconsciously clenched the lingerie in his fist, gripping it so tightly his knuckles went white.

“Charlotte, why couldn’t you just disappear completely?”

But no—he was determined to erase her from his mind, every last trace.

He snatched his phone. “Set up a drone light show for tonight,” he ordered curtly.

Charlotte woke to the shrill ring of her phone—Herbert calling.

“Charlotte, someone’s pulled strings to rent out the whole downtown tower for a private drone show. It’s supposed to be spectacular. Want to go?”

She hesitated. Tomorrow’s surgery loomed, the outcome uncertain. If tonight was her last on earth, she might as well enjoy one final feast for the senses.

At the agreed time, Charlotte arrived at the rooftop of the city center tower—the perfect vantage point for the show.

Herbert had managed to get them front row seats. No sooner had they settled in than a wall of security guards began clearing a path through the crowd.

Down the open aisle strode Darren, holding little Noah by the hand, with Xena gliding beside them in an ethereal evening gown.

The three of them moved with graceful composure, heading straight to the VIP seats—right next to Charlotte.

She felt her face go pale.

Darren clearly hadn’t expected to run into her either. His brows drew together in a hard line.

As fate would have it, his seat was directly beside hers.

He sat down with a mocking smile. “Mr. Nelson, you really do have a talent for picking prime seats, don’t you?”

Charlotte had left her old life with nothing, unable to afford even the cheapest ticket here. Darren realized Herbert must have paid for her.

Charlotte’s gaze blurred; the words seemed to shatter something inside her.

Softly, she turned to Darren and asked, “Isn’t Xena your new songbird? You’ve loved her for twelve years?”

Hearing those three words—“twelve years”—fall from her lips, Darren felt his frustration spike.

His tone was cold. “Charlotte, what right do you have to question me?”

The words caught in her throat, choking her.

Her mind echoed with memories of promises he’d made so long ago—“Wait for me, I’ll come for you. If I don’t, go to the Harringtons and tell them, you’re the one I’m going to marry.”

Now she saw it for what it was—a rich man’s idle talk, nothing more. She had believed him, devoted twelve years of her life to a lie.

Despite her best efforts to stay silent, the words spilled out:

“I’m asking as someone you deceived. If you already loved someone twelve years ago, why give others hope? Why let them misunderstand?”

“Why did you lie and say I was the one you’d marry?”
