Chapter 3
Just as my daughter’s tongue was about to touch the filthy ground beneath that drone, I lunged forward and snatched it away, then slammed it down with all my strength.
“You bastards have crossed a line you’ll regret!” I spat, my breath ragged and shallow from the sharp sting in my chest. My eyes burned red as I stared daggers at them.
I never thought Sebastian would marry someone else and have a child while we were still legally married. The shock alone was enough to shake me to my core. But worse than that, I never imagined their spoiled brat would humiliate my daughter in such a cruel way.
Sebastian… even if you’ve moved on, how could you stand by and watch them treat Ivy like this?
“You… you broke my drone?” The little boy froze, his face twisting into a cruel sneer that no child should ever wear.
“Mr. Charlotte, she must pay—with her life—for breaking my drone!” His voice was sharp and cold, filled with a menace that made my blood run cold.
“You little bitch, you’re asking for it! How dare you mess with the young master!” Charlotte bellowed, his fury echoing through the alley. “Where the hell is security? Someone get over here!”
The guards lurking in the shadows exchanged quick glances before moving in on me, their footsteps heavy and threatening.
“Beat her to a pulp. I don’t care if she dies.” Charlotte barked the order like a predator commanding his pack.
I managed to fend off two of them, but then a baton slammed into my back, knocking me down hard onto the cold, unforgiving pavement.
Before I could recover, they all descended on me, fists and boots raining down mercilessly.
The crowd gathered nearby watched silently, their faces a mix of pity and fear, yet not a single soul dared to intervene. They just shook their heads and muttered to each other.
“That girl’s got guts, going after anyone but Tyler Ward, that little demon.”
“Everyone in New York knows how much Mr. Shaw dotes on that son of his. She’s done for.”
“She’s biting off way more than she can chew. No power, no backup, and she wants to play hero? She brought this on herself.”
Some cast me looks of sympathy, others scornful sneers.
My daughter’s sobs pierced through the chaos as she tried to shield me, but Charlotte yanked her away roughly, nearly sending her sprawling to the ground.
“Tyler, I’ll clean your drone right now. Please, just let this woman go,” Ivy pleaded, her voice trembling.
I watched helplessly as she bit her lip, tears streaming down her cheeks, then picked up the dirty drone and began licking it clean, her small tongue moving desperately over the grimy surface.
My mouth was filled with blood, but I struggled to stop her.
Ivy went pale, her once-bright eyes now hollow and shattered, all hope extinguished by these merciless monsters.
Seizing the moment, I flipped over and grabbed Charlotte, dragging him to the ground.
Fury surged through me as I pounded my fists into his face, ignoring the pain and the blood streaming down my own skin.
He screamed, his cries wild and desperate as I battered him until his features were a bloody mess.
“Kill her! Kill her now!” Charlotte shrieked, but I didn’t stop.
By the time the security guards pulled me off, he was barely recognizable, screaming like a madman.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed nearby, accompanied by a cold, commanding voice.
“What the hell is going on here?”
I lifted my head and met Sebastian Shaw’s gaze. He was flanked by his entourage, striding quickly toward us, his eyes scanning me with a mixture of disbelief and something darker.
“Jenna Anders… how the fuck are you still alive?” he muttered, his voice low and filled with a chilling intensity.
