Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 17

Chapter 4

Rage surged through me.

He wanted me to mother his mistress’s child? Not a chance.

Grayson tensed up at my words, clearly rattled.

Come on, Vivian. That’s not funny.

He quickly waved Lillian away.

Go on, I’ll handle this,he said, but before she could leave, she stumbled, her ankle twisting

as she hit the ground.

Lying there, she glared at me like I’d been the one to push her.

Grayson turned to me, his voice sharp with anger.

Vivian Harper, this time you’ve gone too far!

It was the first time he’d ever called me by my full name, the first time he’d ever shouted at

    1. me.

I scoffed, playing right into Lillian’s narrative.

Yeah, I pushed her. So what?

The moment the words left my mouth, Grayson raised his hand, his face dark with fury.

But after a long, tense pause, he lowered it again, his lips pressed into a tight line.

I’m taking Lillian to the hospital,he finally muttered, his voice cold.

Chapter 4

You can head home on your own.

Without another glance, he scooped Lillian into his arms and walked away.

The sky opened up not long after, rain and wind lashing at everything in their path.

He must’ve forgotten I didn’t have my cane.

Forgotten how a blind person navigates a strange place without help.

But I didn’t care.

I ripped off the sunglasses I’d been hiding behind, tossed them into the nearest trash can, and walked out of the orphanage with clear eyes and steady steps.

The days leading up to my departure for Montana passed in a blur.

Grayson hardly came home.

On the rare occasions he did, his phone would light up within minutes, and he’d rush out

again.

Confident that I couldn’t see, he made no effort to hide the messages.

That’s how I discovered he had two accountsone for show and a private one used exclusively to message Lillian.

Three days before my flight, Lillian posted an ultrasound picture on her profile.

People were commenting about how much the baby already looked like Grayson.

I gathered all the stuffed animals Grayson had bought me during our dates and donated them to the orphanage.

Two days before my flight, Grayson’s private account showed a picture of a heartshaped

breakfast he’d made for Lillian.

Chapter 4

I listed the wedding dress he’d bought me on a resale site.

On the final day, Lillian used Grayson’s main account to post a picture of him sleeping.

The comments were full of congratulations and wellwishes.

As my flight time approached, I grabbed my luggage and prepared to leave.

But Grayson appeared at the last minute, his eyes red, clutching his phone tightly.

Vivian,he demanded, his voice trembling, why is your name on the list for the Montana

medical aid mission?!
